We compared with Cloud Conformity and Staxx. They are all great products and have their pros and cons and we just felt for the price that CoudCheckr had everything we needed and seemed a bit more mature in the market. We review our position every year and can see that the …
Chose Spot by NetApp
There are a few products out there that'll do an aspect or two of what CloudCheckr does, but I honestly couldn't find anything nearly as comprehensive as CloudCheckr.

Cloudability boasts great visualizations but lacks the ability to customize reports and does not address any aspects of cloud management other than cost. CloudHealth is a viable competitor to CloudCheckr. CloudHealth does not have the breadth of reporting capabilities but …

first we have much experience using vCloud Director. We have been using vCloud Director since version 5 until now version 10 something, we can provision VM servers to our tenant and than have multitenancy capability and can do allocation for usage and also can do quota limit if …

Another option was own scripting or maintaining the end users in the backend (vcenter). This costs to much time to maintain (scripting) and has a big change of a Security breach. It was not an option for us either way.
Chose VMware Cloud Director
Hyper-V is built on a Windows platform that includes services not needed for the virtual environment adding overhead. With vCloud I'm not required to maintain a host OS or it's updates. The requirement to maintain storage devices is no longer needed with vCloud as well.
Chose VMware Cloud Director
vCloud Director is definitely my favorite as far as cloud managers. The only thing that compares is Cisco UCS Director, but it has slightly different functionality and purpose. I understand why a lot of clients still go with vCloud Director even though VMware intends to sunset …

If you want to control the cost of your cloud infrastructure and adhere to the industry's security best practices, this is the best I've found. If you want to right-size your instances, this can provide a place to start, but there are other tools like https://www.metricly.com/ that might be better suited. For us, this was enough, and we couldn't justify the additional expense of another tool. But it's primary purpose is to control costs.

For a CSP it's the best choice. For internal uses, even in presence of different business units, it's not so easy and flexible to manage. It assures a high level of multitenancy, often not needed for internal purposes. But it could be used in this case, just not created for these purposes. Network management is great.

Pros
  • Monitor costs and provide alerts when they deviate from normal usage.
  • Provide security best practices and alert on misconfigurations.
  • Monitor utilisation and recommend more appropriate instance sizes and reserved instance purchases.
  • Provide a single pane of glass view for multiple accounts in AWS.

  • Manages multi-tenancy very well. You can setup resource pools of compute, network, and storage that are independent of each other.
  • Easy to create and manage multiple environments.
  • Has lease management technology and can easily set leases and expire them based on pre-configured time frames.

Cons
  • UI can be difficult to navigate. Given the amount of data, it's not surprising, but I often launch the different reports in multiple tabs so I don't get lost.
  • Can be expensive. Not in our case, but you probably want to check and make sure you'll see significant cost savings that'll pay for the product as we did.

  • Logging, there is a lot of logging but is not always clear where to look for the right logging.
  • The syncing of policy, you can't see if or what he did/didn't sync and the status of it.
  • More integrations with VMware product (click like Availability)

Usability
Overall, CloudCheckr covers all our AWS monitoring needs and great integration through SysLog into our SIEM to capture alerts for investigation. The reports are great and allow for an easy daily review. Small improvements could be made to the interface and better filtering in places would be good. Great product and the price is fair.

vCloud Director don't have any new feature, my feeling says that vCloud Director not become primary product of VMware, if this happen vCloud Director will be terminated. VMware should provide cloud management platform with agnostic with another virtualization technology example openstack, hyperv also with hyperscaller that will be have good feature

  • CloudCheckr has allowed us to increase resell margins as an MSP.

  • vCloud Director requires less IT administration. For example, there isn't a need to maintain esx host. or storage administration like creating luns.
  • A negative impact is cost. vCloud Director has a monthly cost for storage, processor core, memory, and licensing.
