Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing vs. SolarWinds Database Performance Monitor

If your company's value is not increased by maintaining databases, you should use the ATP.

Computing resources consumed by the DB instance, DPA queries & wait time, deadlock conditions, virtual infrastructure resources. The addition of NPM & DPA integration as well as cross-correlation in the identification of issues with the network or server or DB is all stupid-proof. Monitoring is more than just health and resource consumption, it's also performance. DB performance analysis is key to maintaining healthy DB instances.

• Simple to use and very easy to learn.
• The execution engines run in parallel, can execute any syntax or query.
• DPN can run all queries for both Oracle and SQL with no additional support.

• Connectivity between ATP and Oracle Kuberentes Engine cluster seems to drop randomly
• The ATP could come in an even smaller shape as the smallest shape is already quite big . But if must be more than always free, as that version does have connectivity limitations about 20 connections

• The Reporting feature currently doesn't allow customization.

You get almost all the features of Oracle Database, including the ability to deploy APEX applications, without having to worry about system, storage or database configuration and maintenance, backups, etc. Also, you can start for free and move up adding resources as you need.

I would say it is a very good tool from overall perspective compared to what I have used till now, still I will give it like 9 just for the sake of the interface and the integration which they should be doing soon with the main module which is SAM , NPM etc.

Both Azure SQL Database and Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing offer a powerful and robust database platform. The advantage of Autonomous Transaction Processing is the ability to host APEX applications for free and without any special/complicated deployment or configuration process. Having a rapid development environment embedded for free was the main advantage for choosing Oracle as my cloud database provider.

SolarWinds DPA gives you a very deep analysis and monitoring of the devices which these tools will not give you neither Datadog or ManageEngine. It even gives you job rate , db locks and all other parameters to monitor which we usually do manually by going in to the DB and not from the tools. It also creates a dashboard out of the same.

• Approx 100 times faster spin up than manual setup of an Oracle DB
• 3h annual maintenance for big version releases (18c to 19c) compared to est. 500h annual maintenance with manual database updates

• What is the cost of a downed DB instance? That's your ROI. DPM lets you see issues before they become critical.
