Oracle
Oracle Coherence can be used to solve latency problems by caching data near the application tier. In-memory performance helps to reduce data contention, thus improving application response time. Oracle Coherence does a great job at scaling linearly and can do so dynamically. Oracle Coherence can replicate data so it can be part of a disaster recovery solution. One thing that is often overlooked with elastic caches is their ability to analyze data in memory, leveraging the processing power of the data grid. This is something Oracle Coherence does exceptionally well. Oracle Coherence also provided event handling capabilities to allow applications to respond to events triggered by transactions.

We use SQL Compare to troubleshoot performance problems quite a bit since our data model is more like a template and not everything is 100% in sync and customization occurs between different client databases. We continually get pulled into performance issues and the developers will say Client A is performing different than Client B, why? Using SQL Compare, we usually find that one client was tuned and had indexes altered or added that weren't deployed to all clients or other objects weren't deployed correctly during the release. On the other hand, since our data model practices allow client databases to drift I tried to create a new golden image by trying to compare multiple databases based on the same data model and found it to be a very difficult process to complete using SQL Compare. SQL Compare gave me too much information and doesn't allow enough filtering to eliminate a lot of the noise.

Truly trusted contact center where the effective solution is always guaranteed. It is not a one-off fix to a specific data integration or management problem. It is a permanent and scalable solution to manage all of your data under a unified environment. Easy to use, great performance, used it for our internal data warehouse. Easy to build and connect to our data sources such as Salesforce, Netsuite, and Marketo.

  • Simple and easy comparison of database schemas and data. Differences can be copied or synced from one database to another with a click of a button.
  • You can save "projects" so that you can easily rerun a previous comparison whenever you need to.
  • It has a very simple, easy to learn interface. I've never needed to read any documentation or watch any tutorials in order to figure out how to do something.

  • It supports a wide variety of connectors (Systems/endpoints)
  • It provides great flexibility for developers as it not only has a lot of predefined ready to use the function but also provides the ability to use complex java code within the platform. Great tool if you have good developers available.

Cons
Oracle
  • I can't really come up with too many flaws, but possibly a bit expensive considering there are good open source caches like Ehcache.

  • Pricing.... I wish there was an inexpensive developer version I could buy for myself.
  • Portability.... I would like to use it from a flash drive so I can use it where ever I am asked to work.
  • Unbundled.... This may be available already but I dont' recall I can buy it cheaply as a stand-alone product. Its only part of the bundle - cost effectively.

It's a good tool to have, but becomes expensive to buy a user license for each developer.

At this moment the usability of Talend Data Quality is optimal, too bad I cannot say the same in the first three months, it was always a problem due to its steep learning curve, but what matters is being able to use it effectively at this precise moment.

Support Rating
Oracle
Oracle Coherence support team is responsive and knowledgeable. We contacted them to ask a couple of design questions about how we were setting up Oracle Coherence based on how we used IBM's Datapower Extreme Scale. They were able to guide us so that we got the design correct the first time and didn't have to go back and re-architect our design later.

They have a great community website where you can search for answers but are also very responsive when it comes to direct support.

Talend Data Quality gave us direct help in the learning process and prevented us from taking many more months to adapt and I appreciate this from the heart, I think that thanks to the support we can have very detailed reports that help increase the use of Talend Data Quality in the company.

Oracle
DataSynapse GridServer has the same cache functionality connected with a grid distributed application deployment platform. It provides all the necessary tools to configure and manage these applications. On the otherhand Oracle Coherence has more a flexible configuration and better performance. Also the Oracle configuration and monitoring tools are more convenient and informative than the DataSynapse ones.

I've used Visual Studio Database Projects for this type of work in the past with some success, but Redgate SQL Compare is faster, more transparent, and simply easier to use. Faster is self explanatory. More transparent, means that it's much easier to set up your desired options for schema change deployment scripts. Easier to use, It's really dead simple. Start a project, connect your source, connect destination, click compare.

The engine with which it works to process a lot of information is striking, the comparison also being the connectors it has for different RDBMS, which other tools do not count as they are GNU licenses or community editions. The friendly and intuitive environment is what catches the eye. that's why I choose Talend over any other tool

  • In my current project, it is yet to be decided as we are on the way to make it live for users. But I am sure it will be an added value to obtain timely calculations.

  • Makes deployment fairly simple. Cutting our deployment time down.
  • With the SDK, we can customize our deployment process very quickly and easily.
  • History is not great, it does create scripts you can go back and see but it would be nice to have a quicker version view by object to save time.

  • Definitely simplified the development efforts on our end in doing the data integration, saving lots of human hours.
  • Small company, so cost could be a problem for these services, but works so far.
