QNAP Systems
I've been using QNAP NAS for a while now, and it's been great for my home setup. The interface is pretty user-friendly, even for someone who's not super techy, but there are plenty of advanced features to dig into if you need them. Setup was straightforward, and I love how easy it is to access my files remotely. The apps work well, and I've had no major issues with performance. It's been reliable, and I feel like my data is secure. Overall, it's just a solid piece of gear that does exactly what I need. Highly recommend! 10/10 from me!

Qumulo
Qumulo is great for media and entertainment companies, that need simple and easy management of a NAS. The product can also scale and be sized to larger shops too. The support that comes with it also can act as an extension of internal IT. Their support is always watching the box when it phones home with hardware errors or if it would go offline. Qumulo is not initially set up well-running virtual workloads, while Vmware supports NFS, some settings need to be adjusted on Qumulo to allow for upgrades to happen while virtual machines are running

Scality
The team in charge of implementing Scality has to be full stack in order to guarantee the correct functioning of the entire system. However, you have to think very carefully about the balance between servers and disks, perhaps adopting smaller fully populated servers instead of large semi-populated servers, which would mean that over time our disk updates will not have a fully useful life.

Cons
QNAP Systems
  • It is not related to the QNAP NAS, but the most common problem we have experienced is with the disks themselves.

Qumulo
  • Admin users are not able to be tied to SSO or LDAP accounts.
  • At the start there was no RBAC but this has since been addressed.
  • While there is incredible analytics, there is no native way to get historical trends by volume or user.

  • The overall packaging is not very good. I think it could be more efficient for installation.
  • There are many components in storage servers. This can generally be complex to understand, you have to be patient.

Scality
As an organization, it took us a while to understand the shift from a traditional black box SAN to software-defined storage, but now we are much more certain of what this means. The time invested and the resources were not very high, thanks on the one hand to the technical support and on the other to the coherence and good development of the platform.

Support Rating
QNAP Systems
Customer support is effective once communication is established. A technical support person is required on both sides. The support is extremely knowledgeable and provides detailed support and explanation to any issues, as well as some will provide recommendations to the business needs as there are many different technologies or methods depending on what the business is trying to achieve.

Their Slack-based support is like nothing I have experienced. They are fast, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile, even when an issue is not clearly their's to solve. They are committed to your success. The engineers on the Slack channel are oftentimes the engineers that programmed the very same feature you are asking questions about or having issues with.

QNAP Systems
Our historical supplier was a QNAP partner so we started with them.
We resell on request also NETGEAR and Synology. Maybe is for the practice on them but we think that they are easier to use and configure.
The thing i can affirm with convinction is that are realy durable! I think i never repaired a QNAP NAS and, we resell them from about 10 years.
They have all the functionality we ever had to our customers.

Qumulo was not the least expensive but we were blown away by support offered and pre-sales support to ensure questions were answered. Our main challenges were mixed end-user platforms and a diverse set of use cases on those end-user computers. Having the dual access to volumes, over NFS and SMB, helps us greatly in this area.

Scality
Due to the nature of our business we require extensive encryption and availability for sensitive customer data. The erasure encoding that Scality provides gives us the assurance that documents are rest are never in a state of being downloaded or available to a casual data thief. This is something that can be found with other vendors but at a fraction of the same cost. Having this kind of performance, availability and redundancy at the cost that Scality provides has made a large difference to our organization.

  • Keeping sensitive customer data secure is a must for our organization and Scality has great features to make this happen.
  • We replaced a single SAN with a Scality ring and found performance to improve as we store more and more customer data.
  • Being able to lose various portions of our Scality ring and allow it to continue to service customers while maintaining high performance has been key to our business.
