Vim vs. WYSIWYG Web Builder

I would recommend Vim in any scenario where text files have to be viewed, created, or edited on GNU/Linux computers. Regardless if you need to quickly change a few things in a configuration file, or you need to write up a full document, Vim is great. I wouldn't use Vim to view, edit, or create anything that requires "rich-text". In other words, if you need to format the text (bolding, font colours, word-art, etc), then Vim isn't the tool to use.

If you prefer a PC/local development environment vs a fully online development tool, WYSIWYG Web Builder may be the best product available. If you are frustrated by bloated CMS systems that require constant updates and fixing of expired or conflicting plugins WYSIWYG Web Builder could be for you.

• The efficient modal editing makes it very fast to write/edit code as I think of it.
• The customization and wide range of plugins let me do very specific things and automate parts of my workflow.
• The fact that it runs inside a terminal simplifies my window management and just becomes another Tmux window in my workflow.

• Rapidly build website
• Builds site that load fast
• Allows for competely custom sites

• Without a doubt the hardest program to learn. It is a completely different paradigm of thinking compared to other editors
• By default it doesn't have lots of fancy features you would find in larger IDE programs like code completion and linking
• It lives in the command line so a user has to be comfortable with this interface

This is my fourth year using WYSIWYG Web Builder and as many new releases. Each new release brings a staggering number of new features and enhancements. But the updates, fixes and new features are not limited to a once a year update. The product is updated with interium releases every few months.

I don't consider the steep learning curve to be a hinderance on the overall usability. I would rate this a ten, but to be honest a lot of people do get hung up at the beginning and just abandon it. However, for people who have made the moderate effort to get over the hump, nothing can be more usable.

The one reason for a 9 instead of a 10 is not a ding to the product itself. When first starting out the available options and tools are a bit overwhelming. You might be able to achieve the same visual result in multiple ways. As a new user you will need to learn which options work best for you. The online tutorials are good and there are a number of very good videos available on YouTube. The support from the forum is great. New users are treated with respect and provided support and guidance. (That is certainly not the case in many support forums) After fours years and dozens of websites I am still learning new features and tools for enhancing my customer's sites.

There is no commercial support for Vim. Thus, it will not get a mark beyond 5. However, community support is very good. You can easily find solutions for most of the problems in the community.

The developer actively replies to post on the support forum. It is typical to get a reply in a few hours. The support for this product exceeds any other product I have used in the past 25 years. In addition to rapid replies from the developer the support community is very active on the forum along with several forum members providing excellent training videos.

implementaion is simple. install the product and setup your hosting ftp settings.

Vim's keybindings are a lot more complex than Notepad++. With that, comes a whole bunch of capability that Notepad++ just can't match. Emacs is comparable, in terms of capabilities--because Vim is built into so many unix systems, I chose to learn it instead of Emacs. Knowing both probably isn't a bad idea, but there's enough to learn in either camp to keep you busy

I still use Xara for graphic design and image editing. But the web development in WYSIWYG Web Builder is far superior. Compared to online editors like Weebly, Wix, etc WYSIWYG Web Builder allows you to experiment with different options saved to different files. With the online builders you can't easily have 5 options to show a client. And you don't have backup copies in case the work you did, didn't work out.

• It always increases productivity.
• Sometimes feature discovery is not easy. It could be documented well like how to install a plugin and if it supported well or not.
