Steep Learning Curve but Super Powered

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Adobe After Effects to create motion graphics that combine photos with vector images for use on our company social media page. Adobe After Effects gives me the full range of capabilities to create fully personalized videos that are 100% customizable whereas other popular products do not deliver the same level of ability and customization.

Pros

  • Customizable motion
  • Utilizes both pixel and vector images
  • Allows for use of audio and audio customization alongside video

Cons

  • In my experience, Adobe After Effects is not remotely intuitive to use.
  • In my experience, complicated for beginner or very basic use
  • Many wonderful effects available, but I think the menu is frustrating to use

Likelihood to Recommend

I would recommend Adobe After Effects to a colleague above all other comparable software that I have used, however, with the caveat that it can be time-consuming to learn to use and can be frustrating if you are not familiar with the software. Difficulty aside, once you begin to understand how to use Adobe After Effects, it is the only software for the job.

Once you get past the learning curve the possibilities are endless

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Adobe After Effects for Marketing and training videos. Mostly we use it to animate text, objects, infographics, and other various elements to support our marketing and other company department's needs. The videos we create are usually client facing, but sometimes for internal use to better visualize a process for training.

Pros

  • More in-depth customization for animations on text
  • Great built-in templates to simplify workflows
  • Supports plugins that help alleviate manual processes

Cons

  • Steep learning curve of the software
  • Setting up a custom workspace is a little tedious

Likelihood to Recommend

Adobe After Effects is an in-depth tool to help support any video editor/motion designer. I think the sheer amount of features available in the software really allows for endless creativity but that can make it a little daunting to learn as well. It's a great tool to animate business logos and add dynamics to marketing and social videos as well as product, demo, and training videos.

Bring your creative elements to life

AE is great for animated titles, animations, and video compositing.

Pros

  • Animation
  • Dynamic Link with Adobe Premiere
  • Masking
  • Managing Nested/Layered/Complex Compositions

Cons

  • Sometimes it can be difficult to find the pathway in creative elements when compositions get complex
  • Dynamic link can sometimes have issues.

Likelihood to Recommend

AE is a powerhouse for anything beyond basic editing. As far as editing, that's much better suited for Premiere, and thankfully you can just copy and paste from Premiere to AE to further refine your piece.

We use Adobe After Effects to create complex and simple animations for the eLearning Platform called Digital Learning. Adobe After Effects helps us achieve the highest standards of quality as well as efficiency in creating that content easily. It helps create engaging content faster and smarter. Adobe After Effects is the best out there. We have absolute control on what we can do.

Pros

  • Create 2D Animations
  • Create templates for managing recurring content developments
  • Creating Custom Animations for Logos and on-screen elements

Cons

  • First Off: Random Crashes
  • Working on Complex Projects on Low End Systems
  • Efficient RAM usage
  • Better Custom Scripts / Plugins support

Likelihood to Recommend

Adobe After Effects is well-suited for anyone who is looking to create Motion Graphics and training animations, such as Mouse Movements and Application walkthroughs, efficiently and easily. Adobe After Effects can look complicated to start with, but once you get the hang of it, there is no better tool out there in this field.

It's still a great piece of software... if you don't mind a little bloat.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

After Effects is mostly used to come up with quick motion design elements we might use on the site, emails, or even some videos. Most of it is quite small, just simple things that already enhanced what we have created, transitions between certain products, or presentations to internal members. Though occasionally we do create longer works when marketing requires it, usually being put to use on the homepage or in social media posts.

Pros

  • Easy integration with the rest of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Industry standard
  • Work can be easily continue even when switching from Mac to Windows or backwards.

Cons

  • The program itself feels "heavy" so some de-bloating would help
  • Sync workspaces to Adobe Cloud so they can be loaded automatically

Likelihood to Recommend

Motion design, by far the best as I stated before. Creating and animating simple elements that while not needed enhanced the experience, to creating more complex designs and animations that are used in presentations or social media posting. Whether it would be internally to team members or more external posting that are part of a bigger marketing plan.

After Effects gives more freedom to create motion graphics, editing videos, creating small big animations. Adobe after effects has multiple plugins that help explore more and enhance your creativity. It's video editing tools are very user friendly. Importing and exporting images and videos with far better quality gives encouragement to design more.

Pros

  • Motion graphic
  • Image animation

Likelihood to Recommend

Once we were working on a project where we needed to create small animations videos as well as .gif. non of the other tools were usefull when it comes to create gifs and image animations. It took us very less time to create animations and we were able to deliver the project in time.

If you're familiar with Adobe then Adobe After Effects is a no brainer.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Adobe After Effects for Motion Graphics and Animation. I use Adobe After Effects every day and it addresses the majority of my motion design problems or needs. I use it in conjunction with Photoshop and Illustrator so nearly all my needs.

Pros

  • Text Animation
  • Character Animation
  • Simple 3D designs

Cons

  • I would like the Re-Link file structure to mimic Premiere.
  • I would like to see native .obj importing and manipulation.
  • I would like to see better audio editing available within Adobe After Effects. if it could be given a separate layer/panel.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would always recommend Adobe After Effects as it covers many of the basics for Motion Design and integrates well with anyone whos already used Photoshop, Illustrator, or Premiere.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Adobe After Effects to design and finish and enhance our videos with effects, intros, and outros. The amount of control we get in editing is not available in any other application in the market currently. The tools that Adobe After Effects offers also do the job very well and help our organization reduce expenditures by not having to separately purchase those tools.

Pros

  • VFX
  • Titles and outros
  • Motion Blur
  • Animations
  • Effects

Cons

  • Pricing
  • Learning Curve
  • Resource Intensivity
  • Proper utilization of CPU, RAM, and VRAM

Likelihood to Recommend

Adobe After Effects is very well suited for detailed designs and editing where you can put in some time and effort and can reap the rewards of your efforts by having more than average output results. It does require a learning curve and is time-consuming to work on a project. Therefore, it is not very well suited for organizations that require doing multiple projects quickly and with some automation.
