Astera Centerprise is Great!

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Loading data from customers into setup/UAT environments for ERP deployments. We use Centerprise to bypass the need for full SQL access/scripting experience in order to load data in a more timely fashion. Mostly addresses issues with bottlenecks & availability of dedicated data developers.

Pros

  • Integrity check dataflows
  • Bulk load speed
  • Ease of mapping keys & fields

Cons

  • Errors - always stops on the first instance; would be nice to attempt each line & see ALL lines that will error out so you can fix them all at once
  • When working with very large (wide) tables, the load speed when choosing which fields to map, insert, etc. is slow
  • Syntax helper for writing expressions

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for customer who have clean, easy to read & map data - less helpful when the data is in a bad state and a lot of cleanup is needed. We might as well go the SQL Dev route there and have them clean everything up & load it at the same time. But it's great for "plug & play" data formats

Astera Centerprise for Every Enterprise

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Astera Centerprise to build and maintain our DWH solution. Then data is used for various kinds of reporting. This tool is very helpful in the quick development of ETL flows, adding new tables in the DWH, and SCD implementation. Makes operations smooth with scheduling/restart ability, and ease of error handling.

Pros

  • Easy development of dataflows/workflows
  • Scheduling and restart-ability
  • SCD Implementation

Cons

  • Better control/options for the filter in the server monitor panel.
  • Improving re-running of the failed job by running only failed/pending jobs in sub-workflows, instead of triggering all the sub-workflows. This might not be as easy to implement as it looks but an area to look into.
  • [Push-down mode]: PD mode is very useful and super fast when the source and destination both are in the same database. Performance can be enhanced more by not adding extra subquery ( or the brackets() ) for lookup/insert/update operations
  • [Partitioning and parallelism] Diving data into some files and running parallel instances of each component to make run entire flow in a partitioned and parallel manner. This gives a super boost to workflow and huge sized data can be processed quickly.

Likelihood to Recommend

More appropriate - Ease of operations - in terms of scheduling, and re-running, - Ease of development - quick workflow development for simple or semi-complex solutions........ Less appropriate Unix/Linux/AIX-based Integration server installation.

Excellent Tool

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Astera Centerprise for automatically capturing data from PDF files and uploading to different databases. We are also using this for integration of different systems, data comparison, data validation, data extraction, and data transformation.

We initially purchased Astera Centerprise for us to automatically capture and load data from PDF documents to improve our data quality. With all the available functions in Centerprise, we expanded to different areas and continue to grow in terms of application. We also continue to work with Astera support group on possible improvements and functionalities.

Pros

  • Data parsing from PDF
  • Data transformation
  • Data loading
  • Data validation
  • Data migration/ transfer of data between systems
  • Data Comparison

Cons

  • Extraction of data from HTML
  • Data extraction from websites
  • Can you look at front end handling similar to RPA
  • Allow generation of formatted output files in PDF or MS word
  • Allow formatting of MS excel output files (highlighting of cells, underlining of values)

Likelihood to Recommend

Astera is good for data capture, ETL, data migration, data validation, and most backend functions.

Astera is also good for data integration or data exchange between different systems. <div><span style="letter-spacing: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">

</span></div><div><span style="letter-spacing: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">There are still many functions that we have not yet used.

</span>

Astera is not suited for front end processing similar to how RPA works but it would be good if it will include this functionality.</div>

A back office gem whose power is in the simplicity

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We leverage the tool to perform ETL (Extraction, Transforming and Loading) of new customer data into our application's database. The problem it solved is providing the visibility to issues with moving the data from a legacy system database into our system. Plus, we can reuse the projects when implementing future customers from the same legacy system. Having this feature tremendously reduces the time and technical skills required to move the data.

Pros

  • Option to copy an entire project to reuse it for similar but new situations
  • Option to "write SQL" when it really is simply easier
  • Ability to Preview the data before actually pushing it
  • Ability to implement rules or honor database-level rules
  • Ability to quickly get exports of data snippets for 3rd party review of the data

Cons

  • The ability to use AI to "connect" the data through
  • The ability to have teams working on the same project at the same time
  • Having more "undo" options

Likelihood to Recommend

It absolutely will shine in areas where it is connecting the same systems together all the time. It will be a huge asset where people do not need to modify the flows very often, but when you do, it provides a lot of insight into any changes that will occur before actually moving any physical data. Some areas that it struggles, and this is the case for most ETL software, is when the source or destination changes or the requirements of the data change, it requires human intervention, which can lead to creating unexpected results.

Great Automated Tool for ETL

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Astera Centerprise to import and export data in and out of application databases. We needed to manipulate the Data, upon ingesting or extraction, to be mapped and sometimes coded based on client data and mapping recommendations. There was also a need to programmatically alter the data upon extraction or ingestion.

Pros

  • Great visual for mapping data from datafile to database talbes.
  • ability to program and alter data upon extraction or ingestion.
  • Very intuitive interface

Cons

  • Better online documentation or forum
  • Job scheduling could be better
  • Error handling improvements

Likelihood to Recommend

Instead of having to create interfaces programmatically from scratch for each interface, Astera Centerprise provides a nice central location to manage all your interfaces. Astera Centerprise turns complex programming into simple mapping scenarios for non-programmers to be able to provide Electronic Data interchange imports and exports across your organization. Works well in SQL based environments.

Great to exchange data between Salesforce and other systems

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We do use Astera Centerprise for integrations between Salesforce and various ERP systems. The UI is pretty self explaining, even when it's very special in some aspects (not saying it's bad, but different compared to other ETL tools). Overall it's a good tool when you need to exchange data between SF and other systems (either file-based or direct database interaction).

Pros

  • Interacting with Salesforce
  • Customer support (quick responses and very helpful)
  • Self-explaining UI
  • Good performance for our use-cases

Cons

  • Online documentation and training material
  • Better suited license offers (especially for cases with very little usage)

Likelihood to Recommend

As mentioned, we do use Astera Cenperprise for file-based interfaces between Salesforce and various ERP systems. It performs well, easy to install and update, you will have a good history for debugging purpose and it's reliable/stable.

Overall it's recommended if you want to exchange data between Salesforce and other systems (ERP, databases, ...).

Solid ETL solutions

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Astera Centerprise for many various projects. Examples would include automated report generation, inventory alerts and scheduled email tasks. The main project we chose Astera Centerprise for was to sync what we hope will be a legacy database (SQL Anywhere by SAP) to a more web friendly database (MYSQL). Astera Centerprise currently did not have a database driver to connect to SQL Anywhere databases and we commissioned them to create that as part of our purchase agreement. We are still actively working through that process and troubleshooting any bugs that arise.

Pros

  • Easily creates Excel files
  • REST API integration
  • Job Scheduling
  • Knowledgeable Support Team

Cons

  • No automatic updates. Must manually install each new version
  • Job scheduling can be cumbersome
  • Documentation is lacking

Likelihood to Recommend

I have only been using Astera Centerprise for about 6 months and I am still learning the ins and out of it. A scenario where it seems to do well is in generating reports from SQL queries that we already had and no longer have to run the reports manually. The SQL Query Source object has been the most useful tool for me thus far. I have yet to fully stress test the server side of Astera Centerprise, but currently there have been some version updates that required me to re-set up all the scheduled jobs that we have. We only have 8 jobs thus far but have plans to expand this into the hundreds and those same updates would require exponential amounts of work.

Astera Centerprise a solid centerpiece of your data stack

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Historically we have built a number of integrations and small tasks manually through various languages and processes - having to track what we used, who built it, and what server it's running on. Astera Centerprise has been a breakthrough in this regard in a few ways. The first is that it required almost no training to use. I have given someone a 15-minute demo and left feeling confident they could do simple processes with it moving forward. The drag and drop GUI is generally very intuitive and while nothing is perfect, I rarely am fighting against it. The second is there is a wealth of data connections and functions to use. When I talk to peers about this product, I just ask how they are moving data - any data. Do you have an excel sheet that someone updates that need to join its data to a database and from an API and then write these as a CSV file that you import with a PowerShell command? This is literally a task I built in a few hours in Astera Centerprise. If I need to interact with disparate data, Astera Centerprise is the tool I move to first today.

Pros

  • ETL, ELT - moving and integrating data
  • easy UX/Gui for interacting with the application
  • Installation and setup
  • Data Source Choices
  • Complex Transformations

Cons

  • Occasional Bugs
  • Documentation could be better, more clear
  • A premium priced product

Likelihood to Recommend

You have to pick 2 of 3 - Good, Fast, Cheap - Astera Centerprise is Good and Fast. If you have a smaller team, need low administrative burdens, and need something that doesn't require a big learning effort Astera Centerprise is a fantastic fit for these situations. It's a tool that even non-technical people could use to build ETL pipelines and do so well. If you use a number of disparate data sources, Astera Centerprise shines but holds its own even if you are moving data around like to like or even on the same server with its pushdown capabilities. I think if you had a strong need to have a large group work on your ETL, you could do it with Astera Centerprise, there are source controls available, but they aren't very robust, and keeping track of versions, what's deployed, what's changed is not as tight as it could be.

Centerprise is great for automating workflows.

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Use it to transform data to replace current manual processes. Also, use it to generate files from a data warehouse to send to vendors in proprietary formats.

Pros

  • Transform data between data sources.
  • Creation of HIPAA 834 files.
  • Ability to deliver files based on a number of destination types.

Cons

  • Better logging and error handling.
  • Better support for MS Azure file repositories.

Likelihood to Recommend

As a typical ETL tool, Astera Centerprise will perform most core functions. The ability to create a HIPAA 834 file as an established module is a huge benefit. We have yet to integrate with RESTful services but that is something we are looking forward to as a use case for Astera Centerprise.
