Overall Satisfaction with Astera Centerprise

We use Astera Centerprise for many various projects. Examples would include automated report generation, inventory alerts and scheduled email tasks. The main project we chose Astera Centerprise for was to sync what we hope will be a legacy database (SQL Anywhere by SAP) to a more web friendly database (MYSQL). Astera Centerprise currently did not have a database driver to connect to SQL Anywhere databases and we commissioned them to create that as part of our purchase agreement. We are still actively working through that process and troubleshooting any bugs that arise.
  • Easily creates Excel files
  • REST API integration
  • Job Scheduling
  • Knowledgeable Support Team
  • No automatic updates. Must manually install each new version
  • Job scheduling can be cumbersome
  • Documentation is lacking
  • Job Scheduling and automation
  • Excel file creation
  • Emailing of generated files
  • Fast Support
  • Will automate numerous tasks that were done manually previously
  • Will facilitate the migration of our data to an exposable web API for internal and external use
I have not had the chance to evaluate or trial any other products like Astera Centerprise. The decision to enter a license agreement with Astera Centerprise was made before my employment at my current employer.

Do you think Astera Centerprise delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Astera Centerprise's feature set?

Yes

Did Astera Centerprise live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Astera Centerprise go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Astera Centerprise again?

Yes

I have only been using Astera Centerprise for about 6 months and I am still learning the ins and out of it. A scenario where it seems to do well is in generating reports from SQL queries that we already had and no longer have to run the reports manually. The SQL Query Source object has been the most useful tool for me thus far. I have yet to fully stress test the server side of Astera Centerprise, but currently there have been some version updates that required me to re-set up all the scheduled jobs that we have. We only have 8 jobs thus far but have plans to expand this into the hundreds and those same updates would require exponential amounts of work.

Using Astera Centerprise

Astera Centerprise will be integrated into supporting multiple departments with the company. From the IS department to warehousing and operations.
I am the main contact in the company for all things Astera Centerprise right now. That will eventually grow. My background is over a decade and a half of backend web development. I am familiar with the coding operations that take place in order to perform tasks such as create Excel files, connect REST API's and send emails. I am still getting used to the "no code" approach and appreciate the work happening behind the scenes. At first, I found Astera Centerprise to be confusing but have since gotten the hang of things and I am able to perform most tasks on my own.
  • Automated Emailing of Reports
  • Database syncing
  • Free up developers time and have other departments create the tools they need without code knowledge
  • I don't think I can accurately depict this, as my time with the software has been short thus far.
  • Our biggest goal is database syncing between two different types of databases. We have not explored or thought about other ways to use the software for business purposes yet.
We are in the process of converting many reports over to using Astera Centerprise. It would be foolish of us to not renew and lose the time and work put into this process.

Evaluating Astera Centerprise and Competitors

Astera Centerprise Support

The support team has been great. We commissioned a new database connector from them and we have been working out the bugs with it. I have had numerous phone calls with the team that help solve problems quickly. The team is knowledgeable and have been able to help with best practices on how to accomplish a given task. The support team does use Zendesk and that would be my knock. Sometimes I get email alerts when there is a ticket update and sometimes I don't. Not receiving the email alerts means I have to manually check back from time to time and sometimes tickets can sit a couple days.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Immediate help available
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
Not kept informed
I can't attest as to if premium support has been purchased or not. That was negotiated prior to my employment.
Yes - I have reported numerous bugs and the support team has always been able to help fix the problem. I have had the chance to jump on phone calls with them and share my screen and show the team how to replicate the bugs.
I had trouble with a new version that I needed to install (manually). There is/was an issue with the installation process with my particular computer. The issue existed just with my environment. Team members on my side were able to install the software and I was able to install it on some virtual servers. The support team jumped on a call with me and I was able to show them the issues and they attempted to troubleshoot with me. Not being able to immediately figure out the issue, I was given pre-extracted .msi files in order to facilitate a workaround install for the time being.
