Great software to use as a beginner in the industry

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

AutoCAD LT is used in my organization to draw blueprints of machine parts and plant layouts. These drawings are helpful to both R&D Engineers and Supply Management as they help assess purchasing of tooling and the shipment to the plants that have the space for the increased volume of work.

Pros

  • Blueprints
  • Dielines
  • Mapping

Cons

  • Functionality with Adobe CC
  • 3D Environment is missing
  • Updates are hard to keep up with

Likelihood to Recommend

AutoCAD LT is well suited for entry-level jobs such as a 1st year design engineer or intern. I would not recommend the software to a veteran in the field as they should be using more robust software for their line of work.

Great value for the price!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use AutoCAD LT on a regular basis to designing layouts for RV storage facilities as well as reviewing CAD file sent from other contributors like surveyors, engineers, architects, Etc. During the construction phase of our projects I use it to view files and check specific measurements or elevations on our plans.

Pros

  • It is easy to import other files into your workbook and design on top of it
  • On the PC version you can easily add geolocation or pictures to your sheets
  • I like that you can create your own library of blocks

Cons

  • The differences between the Mac and PC versions are quite difficult to navigate. It would be better to have a more streamlined experience between the two platforms
  • It would be nice to have feature like geolocation on the online or mac version and not just the PC version
  • Make it more compatible with other AutoCAD formats so that I can at least view things when they are coming from Civil 3D

Likelihood to Recommend

AutoCAD LT is well suited for drafting and construction management. It is very useful to be able to open the design files and look at the specific items that are in questions. It is best for when you need to be precise in measurements, scale, and layers.

AutoCAD would be less useful if you were using it for something like creating reports where the office or Adobe suite is better suited

Easy, Reliable, Customizable. The best 2D software. The golden standard.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use AutoCAD LT for developing technical layout for our customers, and small studies in 2 dimensions.

It’s fast, reliable and relatively easy to use.

I learnt to build my own macros and to customize the interface to my needs to get the work done even faster and once someone understand the simple logic behind the commands that are used, everyone can do it.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to customize
  • Reliable
  • Manage big layouts without problems

Cons

  • Incremental savings (if possible) because autosave on big drawings took time to get done because it saves the whole file
  • Some custom macros that I made should be made standard (like infinite horizontal or vertical lines)

Likelihood to Recommend

Recommend to develop big 2d layouts.

it’s in fact the golden standard for that kind of work, and for a reason.

i worked on layouts that had literally the whole factory on multiple levels.

and it handled without a sweat.

it doesn’t digest every kind of cad file, so for that reason it should be evaluated if multiple cad files are handled by the user.

this program basically open just autocad files, not even all of the autodesk files.

Best Software for Design & 2D Drafting

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Being a Solar developer company, AutoCAD LT is widely used within the organization. It is used for drafting, editing and dimensioning of drawing, it is cost-effective software where we are using for 2D effective drawings. It is a great user-friendly software. All of its features are very user-friendly. Using AutoCAD LT we can quickly and easily generate a plan or a design and show details to the client for review and approval. We also use AutoCAD LT to generate design layouts for construction and O&M-related activities.

Pros

  • Drafting and layouts generation
  • 2D Modeling and measurements
  • Layers and property features
  • Useful commands like mirror, copy, move, array, offset and rotate etc.
  • File recovery feature

Cons

  • All individual lines are to be made a polyline to perform actions like Hatching, filling, etc which is very hectic. - Wish need not make it in the future.

Likelihood to Recommend

AutoCAD LT is more beneficial for the beginner to start in which it is easy to draft a 2D drawing, and it is comparatively lower in price than the AutoCAD original version. Even it is low in cost than the original version, we can do all detailed drawing drafting with LT version. AutoCAD LT is not suitable for 3D drawing and rendering.

Less money, for almost the same features!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

AutoCAD LT replaced standard AutoCAD in my company 2 years ago as the workflow in my firm primarily relies on BIM (using Revit mainly) to issue the design drawings. However, engineers need to usually use AutoCAD LT in order to access files that were issued by 3rd parties organizations. AutoCAD LT offers wonderful level of service when it comes to 2D modeling and casual usage of DWG formats.

The transition from AutoCAD to AutoCAD LT went unnoticeable in my firm, as the extra features in AutoCAD were not of great importance in our work flow.

Pros

  • 2D modeling
  • Issuing drawings
  • Smart annotations and dimensioning tools

Cons

  • All LISP functions are missing on AutoCAD LT
  • Missing Architectural and Mechanical tool-sets
  • No 3D modeling of any kind

Likelihood to Recommend

AutoCAD LT is suitable for engineers that uses DWG formats casually and don't rely on AutoCAD as the main tool to issue drawings in the workflow.

AutoCAD LT is best suited for firms that do not use LISP functions in AutoCAD and do not care about 3D modeling. Although AutoCAD LT has other missing functions when compared to standard AutoCAD, these features are of less importance and can't be noticed.

AutoCAD LT, a version to motivate, innovate in all kinds of educational projects

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

AutoCAD LT is being a software for Engineering, Architecture, and other areas, has resources for CAD 2d design as well as CAD 3d resources integrated, allowing 3D modeling, 3d drawing and preparation of electronic mockups, which in my classes I use to work some subjects such as Pythagoras Theorem, ellipses starting from the axis using 3 points or from the center with two points, and also isometric ellipses that are circles seen in isometric planes. We really use almost the entire year to work on projects and encourage the students.

Pros

  • The library feature for all areas is to me AutoCAD LT's extra strong point, it makes it easier to find information within the program itself.
  • The fast solutions and precise development of drawings and projects is also another strong point.
  • I use the floor plans, elevations, sections and the hydraulic designs to work with my students on physics projects.
  • The software allows you to scale model and remodel as many times as you need, from simple to more complex designs
  • Importing and exporting files is also very simple to perform making corrections and quick feedback to students easy.

Cons

  • It would be wonderful not to have to worry about AutoCAD's performance settings.
  • Your settings require the best performing processor, memory, and video card because it is these items that keep the software from taking too long to load and run the projects.
  • AutoCAD is a very complex software that requires memorization of command codes.
  • Simpler introduction methods would be excellent because it is very important that people using it have a good understanding of it, and not just work with the software as a program operator.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is suitable for use with students who are familiar with using a computer. Unfortunately, we still have many people without access and basic knowledge, such as a simple application of the oficce package.
