What is Betterteam?

Betterteam is a software that enables users to post to over one hundred job boards simultaneously, including popular job boards or job-seeking sites like Indeed.com, Monster, and LinkedIn. It boasts over 2,000 businesses as users, and enables users to start for free. Users of the job posting tool can receive up to 1,000 per posting. It is a solution designed to support the needs of small and midsize businesses.

Betterteam offers several pricing tiers. The solo plan is available for one user and costs $39 per month, for one monthly job post that can receive a reply from up to 25 candidates. The basic plan supports three monthly job posts and runs $99 per month. For those with greater job posting needs, the unlimited plan enables users to distribute 10 job postings per month for $139 per month. The “VIP” plan enables users to distribute 20 job postings per month, for $209 per month. The unlimited and VIP plans enable responses from unlimited candidates per job post. Discounts are available for annual subscriptions.

Users can review responses from candidates (as well as manage their Betterteam accounts) with the Betterteam dashboard, which enables hiring managers to rate and review candidates. There is also a knowledge base, which is available at no charge for hirers. It offers interview questions, leadership questions, communication skills, or brain teasers to judge how various candidates might fit into company culture. Betterteam also provides job description guidance with customizable templates or role-fitted examples.

TrustRadius Research Team Analysis

Betterteam describes itself as a job posting platform. However, Betterteam’s function as a web-based central location for sending job posts to job boards and receiving applications from those job boards means it is an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

Who Are Betterteam’s Partners?

Betterteam sells itself on its coverage. So where do jobs go when posted from Betterteam? Unlike many ATSs and job boards with partner networks, Betterteam actually discloses much of its partner network. The full list of the major job boards is shown below. Beyond the major job boards, Betterteam claims to have a network of 10,000 smaller job boards. However, only a little less than 200 are explicitly listed, which can be found here.

Table showing a list of major job board partners including Indeed, Glassdoor, SimplyHired, Google for Jobs, LinkedIn, Monster, Jora, Talent.com, Adzuna, and ZipRecruiter

It should be noted that most of these sites offer free job postings. Although not made explicit by Betterteam, the posts on these job boards are likely free versions. This means that you are not receiving any value from Betterteam for posting on these
The exceptions to this are Monster and Talent.com. Monster used to offer free job postings but now only offers free trials of its monthly plans. Talent.com utilizes a pay-per-click model but also aggregates jobs from other sites. So posting to Talent.com through Betterteam provides value over posting directly to Talent.com.
Similarly, Betterteam provides significant value by posting to Monster. While Monster used to provide free job postings, they now only offer monthly subscriptions that start at hundreds of dollars per month. So Betterteam provides this audience at a significantly cheaper rate than you could get on your own.
How does it compare to some other ATSs? Very favorably. For example:
  • Zoho Recruit, Zoho’s ATS offering, will also post to all of the above sites, although its list of niche boards is smaller.
  • JazzHR is missing Jora, Monster, and SimplyHired and has a much smaller list of additional job boards.
  • BreezyHR is missing Jora, Talent.com, Adzuna, and SimplyHired. Its list of other job boards is also significantly smaller than Betterteam’s list.

The one thing that Betterteam lacks relative to these competitors is the ability to utilize premium postings or other add-ons on job boards. Job boards commonly offer paid add-ons that increase visibility, such as pinning a post or otherwise promoting or sponsoring it. Betterteam does not allow you to purchase these upgrades the way that Zoho Recruit would allow you to sponsor a job on Indeed.

Candidate Management and Communication

Most candidate management takes place through the Betterteam dashboard, shown below.

Here you can see all the jobs you have posted and filter by their current status. By clicking on each job, you can display a dashboard of the applicants for that position.

You can see all of the candidates for a specific job on this screen. You can click to view each candidate's resume and cover letter if one was attached.

Overall, Betterteam’s candidate management system is pretty bareboned. There are absolutely no tools to streamline resume reading. You cannot even keyword search resumes, much less have a resume parser like Zoho Recruit, Jazz HR, or Breezy HR. On top of that, your options for sorting candidates are “like” and “decline.” These options don’t scale very well. However, it gets the job done for small applicant pools or for people who would rather read all the resumes themselves anyways.

Email is the only tool for candidate communication. Email is the standard communication method for the ATSs; however, Betterteam doesn’t provide a lot of the quality-of-life tools that make communicating with many candidates easier. For example, in many ATSs, you could select the candidates you wanted to contact and bulk send a templated email.

No such option exists for Betterteam. Your best workaround is to copy and paste the emails of all the candidates you would like to contact into a bcc field. If you choose the VIP plan, you can download a CSV of your candidates' information and upload that into a separate mailing system. Either way, Betterteam isn’t an ideal solution on this front if you expect high candidate volumes.

Integrations

The only integrations that Betterteam currently offers are with its job board partners. However, the VIP plan offers the ability to download a CSV with all candidate information, which can then be used to transfer candidate information to a number of different systems.
This pales in comparison to the competition, which will offer a variety of integrations to different systems. These include background-checking software, collaboration software, digital calendars, HRIS, and video interview software.

Pricing

Betterteam offers four pricing tiers based on the number of jobs to post and candidates to receive.

If you pay yearly instead of monthly, the price is halved. Yes, a full 50% less. Additionally, Betterteam offers custom plans for companies with larger recruiting needs. Some relevant competitor plans are shown below.

Use Case

The use case for Betterteam comes down to two words: coverage and simplicity. When it comes to casting a wide net, very few ATSs are equal. Additionally, being a web-based system with relatively few features, it is extremely simple to use. However, the strong features pretty much end there. Betterteam lacks many of the more advanced candidate management, candidate communication, and recruitment tools that other ATSs provide.

There are plenty of cases where those tools don’t matter, and this is where Betterteam is most likely to shine. If you are hiring entry-level workers in retail, hospitality, or food service, you probably aren’t concerned with candidate experience, recruitment marketing, etc. You probably don’t need resume parsing to help highlight candidates with specific qualifications. You need people who can show up on time and do basic tasks.

If something similar to this is your use case, then Betterteam is an appealing option. As a simple-to-use system that casts a wide net, there is a strong chance it will get you these candidates pretty quickly. But if you want to look through dozens of resumes, if you want to use assessments, or if you want any advanced functionality, you will want to use a different system.
