What is Checkmk?

Checkmk is a solution for IT Monitoring of servers, applications, networks, cloud infrastructures (public, private, hybrid), containers, storage, databases and environment sensors. It can be deployed under all major Linux distributions or users can run it as Docker container or virtual appliance on other operating systems including Windows.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WE monitor our servers regarding all operating critical measures like disk space, running processes, memory needed, etc. As we have hundreds of linux servers, a central monitoring tool was needed to prevenmt service outages. Compared to other solutions , CheckMK gives us the most flexible solution to also monitor processes not included in the basic installation or any plugins.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use Checkmk to monitor all our IT infrastructure from vmware cluster and vms to our network switches and firewall. We use both Windows and Linux in our organization, the Checkmk agent is excellent in both environments. Checkmk allows us to avoid unexpected issues and downtime due to its in-depth monitoring of services. Also, the graphs and data are an excellent tool for management to show downtime and stats.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Checkmk to track changes on the network connected to our networking equipment. With thousands of network connections using Checkmk to manage them has made my life significantly easier. I am alerted when a port is disconnected or connected allowing a proper trace of the cable. Checkmk also has assisted me with monitoring all equipment attached to the software to ensure network quality is in check as well as device status. Very useful for servers for knowing if there is a RAID issue or disk issue.
