If asked, I think I am likely to tell a colleague that, in my opinion, Cisco Catalyst Switches have Good stacking features make reliable networks. not so good for some of our residential accommodation, where fanless and small size are important. (The 9200CX model is good, but could do with more user ports in some locations.

Compare/Commit CLI for complicated Changes.
EVPN capable switches in a fanless desktop form factor.

Cisco Catalyst Switches are used for connectivity to WAN and DataCenters

Pros

Option to stack switches.
Auto-upgrade option.
Line Rate crypto for IPSec tunneling.

Cons

Supporting SFP's. Eg. Cisco 10gb LR sfp was not official supported on de 9K switches
Netconf differents between running-config and Atomic config replace (netconf). Configuration code is sometimes different. Makes compliancy check hard.
Licesing proces.

Using Cisco Catalyst Switches as a Core, Aggregation and access. Scenarios depends on specific model. For example C9500 Is used as a Core and Aggregations in Data Centers and Telecommunications nodes. We usually make stack-wise or virtual stack with 2 units. Also on some of clusters we have installed SSDs for capturing netflow.

Pros

If the Cisco Catalyst Switches are not stacked, they are stable. If Cisco Catalyst Switches are stacked, very buggy

Cons

I think there is room for improvement because in Testing Cisco Catalyst Switches - over the last 12 months we have encountered many Cisco Catalyst Switches bugs which were identified by us. TAC (technical assistance center) have confirmed these bugs
