Rating: 8 out of 10
IncentivizedUse Cases and Deployment Scope
We are using Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) for storing the backups and archiving the old data. We are also using it as an attachment storage for a few of the applications that require frequent file storage, like our account and billing departments. Some of the applications are based on the data retrieval from the Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) via REST APIs.
Pros
- Application and Database backup storage.
- Archiving legacy data.
- Attachment and media storage.
Cons
- Better 3rd party integration is needed for the use cases where applications can use Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) directly.
- Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) implementation with an On-premise network can be made more robust.
- There can be some enhancement in the version control feature of the files specifically for the REST API based applications.
Likelihood to Recommend
Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) is best suited for backups and archives, and it is much cheaper than block storage. It also has a good use case for attachments and file storage, as it's easy to share them over the cloud. However, like other object storage, Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) is not suitable for applications that requies low latency.
