Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS)
We are using Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) for storing the backups and archiving the old data. We are also using it as an attachment storage for a few of the applications that require frequent file storage, like our account and billing departments. Some of the applications are based on the data retrieval from the Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) via REST APIs.
Pros
- Application and Database backup storage.
- Archiving legacy data.
- Attachment and media storage.
Cons
- Better 3rd party integration is needed for the use cases where applications can use Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) directly.
- Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) implementation with an On-premise network can be made more robust.
- There can be some enhancement in the version control feature of the files specifically for the REST API based applications.
- Cheaper to use Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) than the on-premise storage and hence savings in infrastructure cost.
- Using Cloud based storage has reduced the manpower resources required to maintain the storage infrastructure, further reducing costs.
- Overall, end-user latency has reduced by using Cisco Cloud Object Storage (COS) as a content delivery network for the media files.
Cisco Object Storage is very cost-effective compared to other cloud storage providers. Its security and reliability give it an extra edge for data-sensitive applications by providing encryption and access controls. With Cisco's other cloud solutions, like Cloudian HyperStore software, it can provide custom solutions for the needs of various industries.
