What is Codeship (discontinued)?

Codeship was a hosted Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) platform designed to automate software building, testing, and deployment workflows. Acquired by enterprise software delivery provider CloudBees in February 2018, the cloud-based service integrated with source code repositories—including GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket—to execute automated test suites and deploy application updates to hosting environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. CloudBees officially discontinued and sunsetted the CloudBees Codeship product on January 31, 2026, ending all technical support and service operations. The listing is retained as a legacy record to preserve historical user reviews and research data.

Platform Architecture & Deployment Options
Codeship provided two distinct operational tiers to accommodate different development requirements:

Codeship Basic: A graphical user interface (GUI) configured service for standard application builds and parallel test execution that required no container infrastructure configuration.
Codeship Pro: A Docker-native CI/CD environment that supported custom container workflows using declarative configuration files (codeship-services.yml and codeship-steps.yml) and local testing CLI tools (jet).
Automated Pipeline & Build Automation Integration
The platform monitored connected version control repositories for code commits, pull requests, and branch merges. Upon detecting changes, Codeship provisioned isolated build environments to compile code, run automated unit and integration test suites, and report build status back to the repository interface.

Multi-Environment Deployment & Hosting
Codeship automated deployment workflows across staging, testing, and production environments. The platform supported turnkey deployment integrations with cloud infrastructure providers, container registries, and serverless hosting targets, enabling engineering teams to configure automated deployment pipelines based on branch triggers and environment variables.

Acquisition, End-of-Life, & Migration Status
CloudBees acquired Codeship in February 2018. On January 31, 2026, CloudBees officially reached End-of-Life (EOL) for the CloudBees Codeship product, permanently terminating cloud build infrastructure and redirecting codeship.com domains to CloudBees' enterprise software delivery platform. CloudBees directed existing Codeship customers to migrate their build pipelines to CloudBees Unify or alternative managed CI/CD services.
