I used the product to backup virtual machines. This had been a challenging area due to the resources that were required and also it had to be easy to maintain. It was also a very manual process for a long time, so backups had to be automated and also sychronised.
  • Continuous data protection
  • Consistent recovery
  • Automated discovery
If you are a small business and you need a solution that is relatively easy to use and configure, then Dell EMC RecoverPoint is ok. The downside was that I found the cost to be high and was unable to negotiate a good licensing deal. Within a year I had to find a difference software vendor to meet my needs.
  • Backup that is set and forget
  • Supportability for issues
  • Able to recover data in a timely manner
  • Sometimes the recover was hit and miss
  • Licensing cost was a big issue
  • It was relatively easy to configure
Instead of creating the VMs, back them up and then create new VMs based on what had been templated on-premises, the organisation looked at newer and more suitable technologies from Microsoft such as Azure VM Image Builder. This saved a substantial amount of time to deploy new VMs and we made sure the VMs had geo-replication settings to avoid downtime.

Data replication tools ensure our company is consistent for users to access different data stores.Dell EMC RecoverPoint provides us reliable data protection.
  • Affordable pricing.
  • Integrations for automation.
  • Compression options.
It is well suited if your whole environment is virtualized to integration with vmware SRM for automation. It isn't suited if you are not using a fibre channel switch network and could get expensive if you have a lot of storage to replicate.
  • (RPO) Compression options.
  • Dell EMC RecoverPoint replication provides the constant data protection you need to recover any application.
  • Integrations for automation for vmware.
  • Dell EMC RecoverPoint requires certain things to be implemented that can only be done by EMC / Dell support.

We have been using Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (hosted on VMWare) for Disaster Recovery. It helped us having secondary site consistent and recover systems with VM level granularity. This software solution is highly reliable and keeps our "Tier 1" application highly available with minimal usage of resources and gives us an edge because of its point-in-time recovery (that may cause due to any factors like malfunction, data corruptions, disaster).
  • Automatically discover and register VMware ESXi hosts for replication.
  • Auto-registers shared datastores , pre-defined failover Network Configuration. EMC RecoverPoint saved a lot of time and helped our team to minimize our disaster recovery window.
In this competitive market please prefer to adopt reliable and enterprise solution for your mission critical systems/applications as they are your assets. We are VMware shop and recoverpoint well suited our requirement.
  • We perform DR test in every six months and recoverpoint (vRPA) simplified our DR strategy. The solution saved lot of time and helped our team to minimize the DR window. It provides a reliable and repeatable automated DR workflow that increases data protection and recovery operational efficiencies. Silent test recovery and replicate VMs without impacting production site and bring down our RPO/RTOs to meet business needs is one of the key benefit.
EMC RecoverPoint is a storage agnostic and highly reliable solution in terms of cost as well as reliability.
Yes
We earlier used Hitachi VSP storage and its underlying solution called HUR (Hitachi Universal Replication). Product worked well but we refreshed our storage from Hitachi to Dell EMC so to we bought recoverpoint from EMC for our DR solution.

Recoverpoint is used in conjuction with VMWare SRM in the protection of production SAP instances necessary for the business to function. It addresses the need to replicate data from one location to another for disaster recovery. The utility it provides can be viewed as a DVR, to roll back data that has been protected from the production site and to test that data, before approving it and sending it back to production or back to DR.
  • EMC RecoverPoint does it's core functions of DVR like replication extremely well. It integrates perfectly with VMware vsphere and SRM and is relatively simple to configure.
  • EMC RecoverPoint handles failover and failback very well, either manually or through the SRM interface.
  • EMC RecoverPoint physical is relatively easy to run once installed and configured!!
Recoverpoint is perfect for shops with EMC Arrays that need to replicate from array to array at decent speeds. It is also perfect for environments that have VMware SRM and need failover/failback functionality of VMs in near realtime.
  • Recoverpoint allowed the Business to have DR capabilities across a multitude of EMC arrays. It allowed the centralization of VM's to be protected across environments both locally as well as remotely.
  • Recoverpoint can bring RTO down to minutes and can keep RPOs down to quickly restorable levels as well.
Zerto was selected to compete against recoverpoint.. Zerto was a virtual solution that doesn't work for physical solutions. Recoverpoint was chosen over Zerto because of the need to replicate and protect physical systems, versus just VMs. Zerto is under strong consideration as the environment is becoming more virtualize through the next few months.

We use RecoverPoint with vmware SRM for all departments to replicate tier 1 application servers. The business problem it addresses for our company is lowering the recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) from 13 hours to 4 hours.
  • Block based replication for sql is better than taking just the snaps of the servers since it won't be able to clear the memory of a sql server.
  • With the compression option lower recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) is possible versus using other vendor software/hardware.
  • Integrations for automation for vmware.
It is well suited if your whole environment is virtualized to integration with vmware SRM for automation. It isn't suited if you are not using a fibre channel switch network and could get expensive if you have a lot of storage to replicate.
  • Using EMC RecoverPoint we have 4 hours of roll back just in case a snap is corrupt or have avamar backup issues.
  • Integration with vmware SRM is a big plus for automation of a data recovery plan.
We picked EMC because of the whole product suite and integration with Vmware and SRM.
We have only 1 admin that supports RecoverPoint, but every department has their servers being replicated.
We only have 1 admin to support RecoverPoint.
  • DR repliation
  • Lower RPO and RTO
  • Block based replication
  • Disk space was an unexpected issue we didn't expect. We had to order more disk trays to be able to replicate all of our servers based on a formula for how much we want to replicate.
  • We can use a local replication copy for dev work.
EMC been good to use as of now.

I would not change my evaluation for selecting RecoverPoint. I would have done the same process.
Yes
We pay so they can help with the firmware upgrades.
I don't really have to call support too much, but when I have to they are always there to help.
No
We had an issue where I had compression on and one of the sql databases was growing fast. Users were reporting slowness so I had to call support to find out the issue and they resolved it fast.
