Delphi review
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use it to develop business software. I have used Delphi since version 1.0 and wrote thousands of lines of code. Our software is used by hundreds of companies. Delphi RAD philosophy helps to create Windows database-oriented software easily and fast. Binaries generated by Delphi run on a variety of versions of Windows, from XP to 11. Also, you can build software for other platforms, such as Android, iPhone, and macOS, but we have only developed for Android.
Pros
- Build GUI Windows applications
- Connecting to a variety of databases
- Multi platform
Cons
- IDE, currently is a 32 bits app
- Price, it's an expensive tool
- Firemonkey library lacks variety of VCL
Most Important Features
- Source code compatibility with older versions
- We use it since v1, so we are experts in the language
- Look and feel with latest Windows versions
- No runtimes needed, you can build a monolith exe for Windows and all is in it
Return on Investment
- 90% of our software is developed in Delphi
- Some applications are older than 15 years and still in use
- When we choose Delphi in the late 90's for our code base, it was a good decision
