Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use DigitalOcean's Droplets to power our web servers for client sites, SaaS platforms, custom app backends, and more. They have been a great option that mixes an easy-to-use deployment options with optimal performance. The dashboard provides access to critical statistics on our servers, allowing us to address any performance issues with one-click upgrades.

Pros

  • Easy to launch
  • Performant
  • Secure

Cons

  • Some platforms offer better performance for cheaper servers

Likelihood to Recommend

There are some other platforms that compete with DigitalOcean Droplets that have more performant servers for a very minimal price decrease. However, DigitalOcean's servers still have great performance, and the experience is better when you consider the developer console, managed options, and uptime that DigitalOcean offers. DigitalOcean is the better all-around package.

Digital Ocean is a cost effective way to move web apps to the cloud

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Digital Ocean Droplets made it very simple to move some web apps to the cloud. It has also allowed us to utilize contractors, without giving them access to our internal network. I love not having to worry about the security of our web apps, and plan to migrate more things up to the digital ocean in the future

Pros

  • Easy to add new VM's
  • Easy to share access with others
  • Cost is very competitive

Cons

  • The interface has a lot going on, so hard to know where to go
  • VM configuration could be easier

Likelihood to Recommend

Digital Ocean is well suited for moving web apps to the cloud. It allows us to set up test and production environments without having to worry as much about security. It also allows us to bring on contractors and not give them access to our internal resources. Provisioning of resources is pretty easy as well

Scalable, decently priced alternatives to major cloud solution providers

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were evaluating various cloud-based computation platforms for our internal POC. Digital Ocean droplets were one of the cloud-based solution providers we used. Our POC consisted of using lots of threads to perform computations in parallel. Digital Ocean Droplets were easy to set up and start using, decently priced, and easily scalable. They also provide useful information thus keeping our bills in check to some extent.

Pros

  • Scalable
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Usage information should be more real time
  • GPU option should be introduced

Likelihood to Recommend

If you want to set up your cloud infrastructure easily then Digital Ocean Droplets should suit you. They are scalable as well but they offer only CPU computation power. Hence, if your usage is only based on CPU computation then this can be a good option. They are decently priced as well. However, if you require graphics processing then this will not work.

Affordable cloud Droplet

Rating: 6 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

DigitalOcean is like an alternative cloud solution which we are using right in our organization for UAT environment and to do POC(proof of concept), POV(proof of value). In terms of pricing is far cheaper than another cloud platform like Amazon, Google cloud platform, azure. The UI is quite interactive and easy to navigate for a number of other services.

Pros

  • Easy USER interface
  • Cost effective compared to other cloud giants
  • Quick deployment of Droplets

Cons

  • In terms of an availability zone, they have limitations not available in most of the geographical locations.
  • No live support is available which can cause problem if you have outage.
  • Number of service is quite limited.

Likelihood to Recommend

DigitalOcean solution is quite effective if you are a mid-size organization and your end users are not scattered across the globe because the droplet has limitations of launching in different geographical locations as their data center is not widely available, neither they have live chat support to address your issue in case you run out in any kind of outage which will impact your end-user and business.

The best cloud computing service!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

A DigitalOcean Droplet is being used at our company to host our WordPress website and we also use it for cloud computing purposes like running python automation scripts 24/7 on a cloud computer that we can easily manage via SSH, DigitalOcean Droplets makes the process of creating Linux servers extremely easy and the marketplace is full of great 1 click solutions for different purposes like OpenVPN, Plesk, Docker, etc...

Pros

  • pay per hour model
  • droplets availability on different regions
  • the ability to instantly destroy a droplet

Cons

  • it would be great if they can add more server locations preferably in the MENA region

Likelihood to Recommend

DigitalOcean Droplets are the best choice for developers teams that need reliable Linux servers to deploy their projects, the ability to create a droplet for testing purposes then destroy it, and only get charged for the few hours used makes the chances of messing up very slim. DigitalOcean Droplets is a great solution because the servers are scalable and the process of adding more resources like CPU or RAM to an existing droplet takes only a few minutes and once a server is scaled up it can also be scaled down if necessary which is perfect for supporting a temporary peak in traffic for example.

DigitalOcean--Made for developers by developers

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

<div>As our main product is an education platform, we need to host the

website. The site being a heavyweight application, I can't use typical

hosting. So we buy VPS from DigitalOcean. DigitalOcean Droplets is one of the best in the

market according to our need because our platform is non-profit, so we

can't afford big servers all month long. DigitalOcean Droplets gives us the flexibility

to resize servers when the load increases. Our site is built with PHP

and we have built a deployment cycle in our DigitalOcean Droplets, so the development

process has been so much easier.</div><div>

</div><div>Moreover, we have been selected in DigitalOcean Droplets' non-profit program, where they provide us free credit for a year. That is another reason we chose DigitalOcean Droplets.

</div>

Pros

  • Instant server spin-up
  • App platform
  • CDN network

Cons

  • Managed database
  • App platform
  • Mobile app

Likelihood to Recommend

<div>If you need a server with minimal pricing, for testing or

something, DigitalOcean Droplets is for you. If you need root level permission to

run your app and modify the system as you want, DigitalOcean Droplets is for you.</div><div>

</div><div>If you want one-click docker hosting or a highly scalable system, DigitalOcean Droplets might not be the best choice. Yet you can do it by yourself; it's just

not properly automated yet. Go for Azure/AWS. Because although DigitalOcean Droplets has an app platform where you can run your app directly and spin up docker container, it has issues. The deployment time is really long, and it takes ages to deploy.

Cost-effective, reliable option for projects such as websites or cloud phone systems

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use DigitalOcean Droplets to host various VPSes for our clients' public-facing websites. It saves us having to set up our own infrastructure and is used across our whole company. It provides the reliability we need to be able to concentrate on developing our products. We have also used DigitalOcean Droplets to host various apps such as 3CX phone system and Unifi cloud controllers to manage our clients' WiFi equipment.

Pros

  • Simplicity to scale services--the interface is very quick and effective to use
  • Reliability--this is key for us, as any downtime effects our reputation
  • Keeps the costs down--hosting our own equivalent infrastructure would cost a lot more

Cons

  • No facility to take snapshots of Droplets to another service for backup

Likelihood to Recommend

Testing and development is a excellent use case for DigitalOcean Droplets. You can spin up a new Linux machine in under a couple of minutes, deploy and test your application publicly, and then destroy the instance and only pay for the time it was running. It is perfect for hosting public-facing web applications and other packages such as VoIP phone systems.
