My review of Printanista

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Printanista at the moment to handle all of our supply shipments - which is primarily toner, as well as a quick solution for customers that need something resolved quickly that can be done from the MFP's webpage (which is a ginormous help!) Printanista provides us with the solution to handling a large customer base easily by monitoring supply alerts and service alerts for us.

Pros

  • Printanista provides an in-depth overview of customer's scans, copies, and prints - including Tier 1-3 with some units. Which is extremely helpful for helping a customer narrow down where their expenses are coming from.
  • Printanista allows us to assist customers quickly and easily via the remote webpage available for MFPs, minimizing customer downtimes in some cases.
  • Printanista gives us a great overview on supply usage, from percentages (sometimes down to the 0.1%) to average page coverage.

Cons

  • Printanista/eci could be absolutely improve the implementation of the Data Collection Agent, as it's currently quite hit-and-miss depending on installation environment.
  • From a development standpoint, a huge plus would be an easily accessible API and API key generation to make custom integrations much easier to make and work with, although the WSDL does work quite nicely in a pinch.
  • Filtering by ERP/no ERP, removing certain manufacturers, models, etc. would be great to have outside of exporting the MFP list from a dealer account.

Return on Investment

  • Printanista has reduced shipment time for many customers - the idea of automated supply alerts make people quite happy when it's one less thing on their plate.
  • Printanista has been of help to reduce the time to respond to a service ticket by removing the need of having to use a remote desktop connection to access the copier webpage to fix the described issue.
  • Customers that want a little more control over their units are happy with Printanista as it gives them the insights and meter histories that they want to see.

Finally a solution to the elusive USB connected Print Meters

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We needed a solution to help with our managed print issues - collecting meters from USB (non-networked) devices has been a challenge for a long time, this cuts down invasive calls to our customers to get meters from these machines. Many print management issues have been solved by implementing Printanista, it syncs with our main software E-Automate and cuts down IT involvement.

Pros

  • Collects USB Meters
  • Aids Technicians in 1 call closure rates by feeding data to service module
  • Keeps customer downtime to a minimum by providing real time data
  • Helps find low/no profit contracts, allowing them to be reviewed

Cons

  • It would be nice if updates were pushed automatically
  • Syncing function sometimes needs a push

Return on Investment

  • 1500+ printers, we have gone from manually entering data on 40% of them to 3%
  • Admins have more time to review contracts now
  • Service technicians are going to print calls more prepared, closing calls in 1 visit, customer satisfaction improving overall

The Good and Bad

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our primary use of the software is to collect meters and monitor supplies, with a secondary use of collecting preflight data for new equipment installs. This alleviates the need to call or visit customers for needed information, limiting the need for additional manpower and client disruption. The supply monitoring piece allows for on-time supply shipment and lower associated supply costs.

Pros

  • Meter collection
  • Supply usage and trends
  • Historical meter data
  • Media Usage

Cons

  • DCA Reliability
  • API accessibility
  • Report flexibility

Return on Investment

  • We had hoped to be able to charge for monitoring supplies, but due to the lack of reliability, we have not been able to realize an additional revenue stream for this product.
  • As a whole, the product has saved us an entire position in our contracts department.
  • Having the meter data available is very useful for remote support call closure, as we do not have to ask the customer to provide a meter.
