Access points for high density environments with no performance loss.
In our company regional, our entire data network infrastructure is Extreme containing POE switches and wifi access points. We manage this equipment through the cloud software that the manufacturer sold us. The extreme access points have been in use for almost two years and are model 250 Wifi 5 - 802.11ac wave 2. This solution is excellent, and we are very pleased to meet all our internet connection and access requirements. The main issue with this purchase was resolving internet slowness and connection security issues through Radius 802.1x authentication and guest portal.
- Allows simultaneous access of more than 200 people per access point.
- It has great design and signal capture and send enhancement features.
- Authenticated access on the Radius server for employees.
- Access with registration portal for guests.
- Warranty with quick parts replacement.
- The hotspot equipment is not upgradeable to Wifi 6. You need to buy the new model.
- 24x7 warranty is much more expensive.

Is ExtremeWireless worth the cost?
We utilize ExtremeWireless in our district for our Wireless Access Point solution. These devices are cloud-managed, which was inherited by Aerohive (Extreme bought them out). Very configurable based on what your needs are - these devices can support up to 200 devices per SSID, and every setting imaginable can be tweaked - such as individual Radio profiles on a per AP basis.

- Quick deployment
- Heatmaps that allow for placement of APs on uploaded building maps
- In my experience, licensing has become a nightmare. Licensing must be tied to a device, they also won't let you activate used units from other companies if they are donated or purchased third-party.
- Customer service is outsourced overseas.
- In my experience, technicians are incentivized to close tickets quickly - whether the issue has been fixed or not - which can be frustrating to work with.
use both AP and switches when the price point sensitive builds. We use this when the hire price sku items are out of reach and can provide a solution that will meet the needs. This also meets the needs to be cloud managed

Aerohive-Needs work
The Aerohive Wireless wifi solution was implemented at our corporate office, along with customers we support. It addressed the issue of centralized management of a wifi solution, and one of the first to provide such service in the industry. We have since replaced it at our corporate office with another solution, but it was a good starting point learning this type of technology.
- The web portal is easy to maneuver
- It took a bit to understand the flow of setting up a new client or site
- The web portal could use a facelift and be more streamlined like the Meraki portal.
- Communication with the APS- specifically applying firmware upgrades. That process was extremely buggy, and many times I had to get to the AP and factory default it because it would get stuck in the upgrade process and not complete the cycle. That was very inconvenient for places such as University halls where the AP was mounted 20+ feet on the ceiling and having the rent a lift to reset the AP.
We use Aerohive APs throughout our warehouses to support our distribution as well as supply chain. It addresses all issues with connecting the thousands of device that relies on our APs to communicate and connect to our core infrastructure services.
- Ease of use and Management. The process of implementing APs is straight forward and managing the wireless infrastructure is quite simple and efficient.
- Coverage: we are very happy with the distance each AP coverages in our warehouses without having any drop issues or over implementing APs.
- Cost competitive versus other cloud managed wi-fi solutions such as Cisco, Aruba or Mist.
- A mobile app would be great to manage the Infrastructure.
- The browser load time is quite long sometimes making troubleshooting slow.
- Better integration with Windows cloud services for management and authentication.
Aerohive is used across multiple companies and at multiple locations in our infrastructure. Each Aerohive broadcasts multiple SSIDs each with its own individual VLAN and integrates with Windows Network Policy Server to utilize AD security groups to define specific users to specific VLANs.

- Access points can broadcast multiple SSIDs and place traffic for each SSID in the same or different VLANs.
- Access Points are able to receive and interpret attributes passed from a RADIUS server. Then use this information to assign different VLANs in the same SSID.
- Cloud dashboard can track all connected wifi users, devices, and show statistics related to the access points.
- Access Points auto connect to the cloud dashboard after acquiring a DHCP IP address. Making initial setup very simple.
- Can require users to agree to an Acceptable Use Policy to utilize a guest wifi SSID.
- Dashboard constantly says that the AP configuration is not in sync with management, but no changes have been made.
- "Golden Age" software updates have caused APs to overheat and crash.
- Renewing the support contract was a lengthy process that could have been easily simplified and streamlined.
- Customer support did not want to help me with resolving an issue. They just wanted to close the case and tell me that it was not an issue with their equipment.
- Documentation is severely lacking for configuring some of the advanced features offered.

Aerohive is Amazing!
Aerohive has been deployed within 2 of our many divisions within the company. We have found the Aerohive product to be far more robust than Ruckus, or Aruba in providing ease of access, policy creation, and overall management. We also use a lot of wireless scanner guns, which makes wireless more than just a critical device... we live or die by our wireless connectivity.
Aerohive Devices rarely have to be set up manually, so interference is minimal... even on the 2.4 gigahertz spectrum. This makes my life as an engineer much easier as I don't have to change things that don't need to be changed..

- Ease of deployment - Setting up an AP is easy as powering it on, the controller finds it. Apply a policy, and move forward with your day.
- Ease of management - Policy updates and firmware updates are point and click
- Amazing Radios - Signal strength is unparalelled for enterprise wireless environments.
- More visibility into your product certification process. - Certifications are a great way to show employers you're serious about the products they have. Not all of us have the means to go to a class just to take your test. Ruckus provides this much easier than aerohive, free online training, and 60 bucks for a test.
- Account execs need to be more engaged, resellers provide better turn around than aerohive account reps.
- Add task templates, or at least make them easier to access if they're available.

Aerohive Wireless: It just works!
We use Aerohive wireless to provide solid wi-fi across the organization, including one central office, two warehouses, and multiple small office/home office installations. With this latest generation of wi-fi tech, we now have visibility into wi-fi and switching across the entire organization, and remote troubleshooting and resolution of most issues is now a reality rather than a hypothetical.
- If your subscription lapses, the AP's don't stop functioning (I'm looking at you, Meraki).
- The "hive" architecture that is the backbone of the Aerohive platform: the cloud is just configuration management and reporting, the "controller" is a mesh network that auto-configures itself on your layer 2 network
- Auto-provisioning is exactly what the doctor ordered: scan the barcode on several unopened boxes of AP's into the cloud interface, ship them off, plug them in at the remote site, wait ten minutes, BLAMMO. Incredible wi-fi with no muss, no fuss.
- Splintering of the HiveManagers: Right now, there are two HiveManagers: HiveManager NG and HiveManager Classic - Certain products are only compatible with HiveManager NG (such as the 8-port fanless switches we would like to use), but HiveManager NG doesn't support routers (which we have)
We use Aerohive for remote access, typically for users working from home but also for very small offices. Representatives across all business units use the technology.
- Extremely easy to provision new devices, once the profiles are set up, due to centralized management
- Very quick provisioning of new devices, due to centralized management and predefined profiles
- They do no support 2-factor authentication or IP whitelisting to log onto their cloud-based management portal. Organization learned the importance of 2FA over a decade ago, yet Aerohive hasn't caught on.
- Tier 1 technical support is generally terrible. I am almost guaranteed to get the run-around when a tier 1 picks up the support case, and they are incentivised to hold on to the case as long as possible. If you don't get a good answer right away, immediate request an escalation!
- Lack of useful logging during normal usage and stability of the software seem to be a constant issue in their BR (branch router) platform, though it has gotten better in the last year or so.
