Fiverr's Alarming Disregard for User Security and Unethical Credit Practices

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my opinion, Fiverr's Alarming Disregard for User Security and Unethical Credit Practices. My experience on Fiverr has been nothing short of a nightmare, compelling me to leave the lowest possible rating. Two crucial issues have persisted, causing severe stress and frustration. Scam Epidemic: I think Fiverr's claim of a stringent vetting process for freelancers is a far cry from reality. I think the platform is infested with scammers, and despite numerous reports, the situation remains unresolved. The lack of concrete actions to eradicate this scam epidemic raises serious questions about Fiverr's commitment to user security. Unethical Credit Practices:

Upon falling victim to a scam, Fiverr's response was to offer a credit instead of a refund. This credit, a mere gesture, comes with an appalling expiration period of 90 days. The refusal to refund my hard-earned money is not only unethical but reeks of a blatant disregard for users' financial well-being. Fiverr's insistence on pushing users into using credits, coupled with the arbitrary 90-day limit, is nothing short of a cash-grab tactic. I believe this exploitative approach only exacerbates the distress caused by the initial scam. My attempts to seek a reasonable resolution have been met with indifference and a lack of empathy from Fiverr's customer support. The complete disregard for the severity of these issues is both shocking and disappointing. In light of these alarming practices, I have no choice but to assign a 1-star rating. I implore Fiverr to reconsider its stance, prioritize user security, and promptly refund the money owed. Until then, I cannot in good conscience recommend Fiverr to anyone seeking a secure and ethical freelance platform. This review serves as a stern warning to potential users and a call for Fiverr to rectify its practices immediately.

Fiverr is for Buyers and Sellers

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I utilize Fiverr as both a buyer and seller, although I started out on the platform as the former. Since that time, I've also begun to market several niche solutions of my own on the platform. As a solopreneur, when I started my business I had to cut corners in securing web design, logo creation, or other similar services due to costs. I discovered Fiverr less than a year after it was founded, so it was still operating under the getting anything done for $5.00 concept. Over the years, not only have I procured superior service from a global range of providers, but I have saved money by engaging these nimble and independent contractors whose pricing is significantly lower than mainstream offerers. In addition, differences in currency values also contribute to more affordable costs.

After experiencing these advantages of the platform as a buyer, I made the decision to add selling on Fiverr to my portfolio. Consequently, I offer select consulting and writing services to an international market. These products are great ways to introduce my business to a new group of clients who may be prospects for my full suite of services.

Pros

  • Creating competition to work on one's projects. There are thousands of service providers on the site. As a result, any request for service will receive multiple responses. Also, Fiverr does a great job in vetting sellers with a star system that will gauge everything from response times to order delivery.
  • The communication and transactions systems set up by Fiverr are straightforward and seamless. Once you're engaged with your sellers, messaging between the two parties can be done through an inbox or on the order page. Payments are handled by Fiverr by placing a credit card on file.
  • Fiverr does a great job of exposing a buyer or a seller to an international audience.
  • Fiverr allows me to accumulate a list of my best sellers so that I can maintain contact and easily access their services again if needed.
  • As a seller, I'm exposed to a range of potential customers that would have not been within my reach otherwise.

Cons

  • When you're setting up your "Gig" as a seller, you're limited in the number of descriptive words you can use, which can sometimes affect context. There are also some image limitations.
  • I don't like that I can't provide a seller or a buyer with an email address or a website URL without being cryptic. Fiverr doesn't want sellers and buyers communicating outside of the platform, which I get, but it can hinder the exchanges from time to time.
  • I also have an issue with the waiting period to get paid. The funds remain in a pending status for 14 days, which in this day and time is ridiculous.
  • Also, the website can be cumbersome to navigate and one can waste productive time trying find the solution to what should be an easy task.
  • Customer service leaves a lot to be desired, although it's gotten better through the years. FAQs are still the go to in the Help & Support Center, but I've found that recently when an email is sent to support, the response is received sooner.

Most Important Features

  • Range of services
  • Number of providers/buyers
  • Reasonable costs
  • Fast turnaround times

Return on Investment

  • Fiverr has allowed my company to showcase websites, logos, and other graphics that gives us an image of a much larger concern at a price that it difficult to beat. I have developed a relationship with one web designer who now does most of the work that I need through Fiverr.
  • There are no real negatives in my view. My biggest challenge is to learn how to use the platform more efficiently to market my services.
