Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I was actually introduced to Google Mobile-Friendly Test at a digital marketing convention about two years ago and it's been a little useful helper of indispensable value. It has helped me and my team establish a significant online presence. We use it frequently to test how mobile-friendly our pages are. It only takes a few seconds to run the tests and produces screenshots that give you the perfect picture of how your web pages appear to your audience.

Pros

The tool runs the tests quickly, in seconds.
Coding knowledge isn't required which is quite a relief for me as a publisher.

Cons

Font sizes don't scale perfectly in the viewport.
Too much technicality in feedback for the average user.

As a developer or a publisher working from a desktop, you are bound to miss several errors on your site, viewable only from a mobile device that's why you need Google Mobile-Friendly Test. These are aspects such as very close navigational links and buttons. With the tool, we are able to easily detect such issues and improve our websites for our visitors.

I use Google Mobile-Friendly Test to test pages I build or amend on our website to ensure that they are mobile-friendly. I also use this for clients as this can identify any issues with viewing pages on mobile.

I used Google Mobile-Friendly Test to test a page that on the surface looked great on the desktop and on mobile in the page builder view that I was using. However, when I used this tool to do a simple quick test it showed many issues with accessing the menu bar on mobile which I wouldn't have noticed within the page building platform.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use the Google Mobile-Friendly test on all the websites I design in addition to Google Search Console to verify mobile-friendliness and any mobile issues. The Google Mobile-Friendly test is more reliable than the Search Consoles since it sometimes reports as not mobile-friendly so the test helps me verify it is.

Cons

It should match up with the Google Search Console results.

Google Mobile-Friendly Test is a good determination of whether or not a website meets Google's requirements. Since Google indexes mobile-first it is very important. It is no help with desktop layouts.

It is easy to get used to seeing pages in desktop mode since we usually do all our work from the computer and it is easy to forget that the majority of the users use a mobile interface. This tool helps us to monitor and score if there was a problem with our mobile page.

I mean, it is a simple, no-frill test that gives your OK or NOT OK and highlights where it is. It is just a temperature check, this has to be used in conjunction with other tools for it to be useful. Since it is free I recommend running it as a check always.

Our web design company uses the Google Mobile-Friendly Test to make sure our clients' websites are mobile friendly for Google and can be seen on modern devices. We use the tool to create "Responsive" websites based on modern browsers, screen resolutions, and devices. Google did a great job in creating this tool for the public and for designers as well.

Pros

Google Mobile-Friendly Test is easy to use and works very fast.
Google also has its own search engine results in mind when using the tool. This is important, as Google has most of the online search market share.
Most modern devices are accounted for.

Cons

Google does not cross-check the results from other search engines in the creation of the tool. Bing and Yahoo might not consider your website mobile-friendly, even if Google does.
Some devices and screen resolutions were not thought of when Google created the tool.
The output of the tool is not specific enough, at times, for web developers.

Likelihood to Recommend

When our web design clients call us asking to update their websites to look mobile friendly to Google, then Google Mobile-Friendly Test is already the perfect solution for us to use, as Google knows their own search results best in designing their own web tools. However, if a client really has a lot of their own customers wanting a responsive design for specific devices, for example, a corporate customer that gives its employees Ipads, then Google Mobile-Friendly Test might not be as well suited.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a marketing agency, we use the Google Mobile-Friendly Test multiple times throughout our process. First, we record the current site's scores before updating or replacing the website. Then, we check-test the mobile-friendliness after launching the new site, giving us a benchmark measurement as well as a "hit list" of things to update. Mobile-friendliness is extremely important to UX and SEO, so we make sure our client's sites are mobile ready.

Pros

The test gives you an option to test a live website or a chunk of code. This way your test your site code, even if your website is still in development.
The instant "green for good" is easy to see and explain.
The list of "page loading errors" gives you a nice explanation of loading issues that don't necessarily affect the site visibly, but are still slowing it down. This gives you a "hit list" of things to fix or look into.

Cons

Google's suggestions are sometimes vague or unhelpful.
The test doesn't offer multiple screen sizes or shapes. Though this isn't a huge issue, it would be nice to make sure a site using media queries stays mobile friendly throughout size changes

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a single-use tool: it tests mobile usability of a website or code snippet. This is useful before, during, and after the development process. So, if you are developing a website, then the mobile-friendliness tool is a necessity. Its also useful (in conjunction with Page Speed Insights and Search Console) in developing a full idea of site performance and how it relates to SEO.
