Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Aspera is mostly used for File transfer. It is used for the security and safety of the information with the ability to encrypt the message, allowing end-to-end communication. Its ability to send large files ensures that the Knowledge Management of the System is intact by integrating with the features of IBM Aspera. IBM Aspera platform neutrality helps users access more easily.

Pros

  • sending super large files
  • providing security to files

Cons

  • learning of its potential and usage needed to explore its full capacity
  • A powerful AI for workflow automation

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM is more suited for large and super large file transfer with confidence in its security. Its ability to share files is extraordinary. I wish that there were an AI feature that could be used to automate the workflow by at least building a basic one.

Only IBM Aspera on Cloud for file tranfers

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Pros

  • Transfer speeds are increased
  • Easy to collaborate with multiple teams
  • Syncing files on local and cloud
  • Data encryption while transferring

Cons

  • The web UI, while functional, can feel overwhelming for occasional users (e.g., clients or external partners) who just need to upload/download files
  • A lightweight web-based downloader (like WeTransfer) for small files could reduce friction.
  • Unlike competitors (e.g., Box, Dropbox), Aspera doesn’t support previewing files (e.g., images, PDFs) in the browser—users must download first.

Aspera in a smaller media company

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I was looking for a professional solution to manage media files for projects in the cloud with editors and clients. I had used Aspera when working on larger studio projects and love that this had the same interface without the need for hardware infrastructure!

Pros

  • Secure
  • Fast transfers
  • Industry brand recognition

Cons

  • Price, more expensive than Dropbox or Google Drive
  • Up/down fees make it harder to budget properly

Likelihood to Recommend

Brand recognition is trusted by the film industry. Makes you look more professional than sending a dropbox or Google Drive link. By far the fastest way to move a LOT of data securely

Amazing transfers

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use it to transfer audio and video files to other departments in the business to complete the final stages of our promos in our business. The issues would include corrupted downloads, half downloads or long delays in the final download. Also, the program just quits half way through sometimes and then I need to reboot the program and delay my work deadlines.

Pros

  • Smooth downloads
  • Nice interface
  • Easy to understand steps for final downloads

Cons

  • Slow downloads
  • Bugs that make the program quit randomly
  • half downloads that you only notice when you view the final file

Likelihood to Recommend

In one specific situation I had to quickly transfer about ten files really fast that were really large but my colleague from another company only had Aspera and it worked so well with no errors and was so fast. It was really helpful to get our promo done with our strict deadline.

Long time File Transfer SME, experience with Aspera on Cloud

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IBM Aspera On Cloud for one of our divisions. All others are

still using legacy Aspera applications (Faspex, Shares, Console,

Orchestrator) and Signiant's. The division using AoC is primarely

because of the "Workspace" feature. This is letting us segment different

workflows while not granting access to administrators and managers to

more than what they need to access.

Pros

  • Segmenting workflows with the workspace feature
  • User friendly modern interface
  • Better than the competition for many features

Cons

  • The Files App needs to have the Search through sub folders features
  • Transfer Nodes management could be simplified
  • Console (Activity) application needs to have a lot more features (like Aspera Console)
  • Automation application needs to have Aspera Orchestrator intergrated totally
  • Improving administrators features. (SMTP relay tracking, notifications on failures, etc)

Likelihood to Recommend

Even with the missing features, I can give a score of 7 based on my experience working with most of IBM Aspera's competitors. A lot of what I love about Faspex and Shares are in AoC, most of it actually. The pricing model of IBM Aspera on it's own is a time and costs savior, as the many "cost traps" of other application suites are a burden we rather avoid.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IBM Aspera on Cloud with partners within the Media & Entertainment industry segment to transfer large volumes of video files and metadata monthly. In M&E, Aspera is widely used in automated workflows built to consistently and reliably deliver entertainment content to audiences worldwide. It allows us to continue serving audiences in the multicultural space, providing high-quality, top-tier, desirable content for audiences to enjoy. Aspera is an invaluable solution in our toolkit for transferring heavy assets in large volumes back and forth.

Pros

  • File Transfer.
  • Hot Folder Automation.
  • Failed File Recovery and Resend.

Cons

  • Pricing and pricing models can be beyond budget for most small and even many medium and large organizations.
  • Aspera Desktop Client could use further development.
  • Standardize Aspera Desktop, Connect, and Cargo.

Likelihood to Recommend

Barring the cost-prohibitive nature of some of the IBM Aspera solutions, IBM Aspera on Cloud is the appropriate solution for many file transfer workloads. Even at smaller volumes and lighter-weight files, Aspera's Hot Folder automation is a well-built and excellent solution for most file transfer needs.
