Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IBM Storage FlashSystem as a storage solution to support critical business applications and databases.

It helps us handle large volumes of data quickly and reliably, improving performance and reducing downtime.

The helped us in ensuring smooth operations for our virtual machines, also we use it for taking backups or doing disaster recovery.

Pros

  • The performance is very good due to its low latency which has helped us to increase the speed of applications or transactions.
  • It has a built in replication feature, which helps us to take backup automatically.
  • The UI is very friendly making it easy to perform daily operations faster.

Cons

  • The prices are little high; may be more flexible licensing option will make it easier for smaller teams to integrate.
  • Although there are many built in features but some more but some features related to reporting can be a add on

Likelihood to Recommend

It has been well suited for the situation where we need high speed and reliability. The latency is very slow which makes it useful in such situations. Whereas it is not suited for small environments where data is less, it will become little costly. It’s best suited for enterprises with heavy data requirements rather than small teams looking for a simple, budget-friendly storage solution.

Awesome storage.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize SVC and FlashSystem as production storage for our IBMi and VMware environments, and a standalone Flash system for the DR site. We use the SVC Enhanced Stretch cluster as an HA solution for the production site, on top of it, IBMi PowerHA, and a VMware stretched cluster. We then perform PBR for DR purposes and trigger a Safeguarded Snapshot for Cyber Resilience.

Pros

  • Performance with FlashCore Modules.
  • Cyber Resilience with safeguarded Snapshots.
  • IBMi full integration.

Cons

  • More efficient deduplication.
  • Increase Flexibility in snapshot scheduling.
  • DRAID geometry modification.
  • 3 Site replication over long distance and high latency IP networks with PBHA.

Likelihood to Recommend

Top choice for IBMi integration. In general, it's a very good solution for quite a lot of customers. If you need a 3 site replication solution (HA + DR) maybe it's not the best solution, unless you use SVC.

FlashCore Modules have very powerful compression rate, while mantaining good performance: high IOPS rate and really low latency.

IBM Storage FlashSystem Rocks

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In our organization, We use IBM Storage FlashSystem for VMWare datastores. IBM Storage FlashSystem Addresses performance and capacity utilization for us.

Pros

  • Simplicity
  • Speed
  • Efficient

Cons

  • Logging into multiple IBM Storage FlashSystems is tedious, even with FlashGrid. Perhaps SSO solves this, but we have not tried this. It would be interesting to be able to log into one system and then be able to manage other systems using trust between the system you are logged into.
  • Code upgrade should give the option to resume manually when choosing the auto pause option

Likelihood to Recommend

In my opinion, I would likely recommend IBM Storage FlashSystem to a colleague because I think IBM Storage FlashSystem is well suited for IBMi and Power. I think it Seems to be less popular with the VMware
