Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SolarWinds ipMonitor is simple to administer and has a significant effect on the organization. It is simple to monitor the various IP addresses found inside the organization, and there is no need to do any kind of manual inspection. This tool is a game-changer for the IT sector. Downtime caused by failures may be mitigated using this solution's automatic remediation to restore services, which might include restarting servers, restoring files, and more.

Pros

  • Both network devices and servers may be easily located on the network.
  • It notifies the user whenever any network device undergoes a change in status.
  • Powerful reporting capabilities that provide vital data about your network's devices (uptime, space, utilization of resources on your devices)

Cons

  • This is a complex system that requires extensive testing and verification prior to deployment.
  • It is little costly as compared to other software's.

Likelihood to Recommend

The best, most convenient way to explore and obtain information for certain demographics is via a user interface. The SolarWinds ipmonitor interface is simple and sophisticated all at once. Everything you need is conveniently shown in one place. It was rather cheap. Additionally, it needs some additional functionality. Otherwise, It is the perfect software for enterprises.

ipMonitor is perfect for large scale monitoring tool

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have deployed all our EC2 instances on Amazon and ipMonitor was used to monitor all the instances. ipMonitor is a very responsive tool in terms of monitoring your resources. We had in-house and cloud-based resources which were monitored through ipMonitor and the best part was the responsiveness. We were monitoring the server health checks with storage and resources usage through ipMonitor.

Pros

  • Server Health Checks
  • Website responses
  • Applications monitoring

Cons

  • Costing
  • Scope of monitoring must be customised
  • SNMP configuration needs to be more simple

Likelihood to Recommend

ipMonitor is well suited if you only want to monitor the server health, website responses, and applications health. ipMonitor serves you well in case you do not want to install agents in client machines as this will communicate through the SNMP port. In case, you need to customize the monitoring tool, you cannot perform it with ipMonitor. Adding host in ipMonitor may be a little tricky.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SolarWinds ipMonitor is used at the level of the entire infrastructure of our business network. It helps us to carry out the monitoring of each of our network devices, servers, and applications, which facilitates us to observe their performance and to be able to find where, how and when critical problems occur in our network. Its interface is simple and very easy to use and gives the advantage of being able to view, from a single console, the status of the entire infrastructure that is monitored 24/7. We not only observe performance but also we are aware of any device that wishes to harm the network.

Pros

  • Monitors the entire infrastructure 24/7, which facilitates the vision of any unknown device that wishes to enter the network
  • Send alerts immediately upon detection of a status change in network devices.
  • It allows to visualize the performance from a single console of each device, server and applications
  • It is very easy to use and implement

Cons

  • It is a very complete and versatile software, but its price can be somewhat high for small companies.
  • During the analysis of the collected data the process can be somewhat slow, so it takes more time than expected.
  • Its configuration process can be somewhat complex since it requires several configurations so having prior knowledge is helpful.

Likelihood to Recommend

SolarWinds ipMonitor Review

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SolarWinds ipMonitor is being used as simple fault and availability monitoring of our remote network devices IP and some of the critical application services and URLs. This tool has a wider visibility in terms of operations as there is a quick response team aligned and monitoring objects very closely and 24*7 of business critical components.

Pros

  • network Monitroing
  • Servers and Services Monitoring
  • Alerting and reports
  • Modern Dashboard

Cons

  • More custom capabilities of monitoring
  • Detailed network monitoring such as for netflow
  • Integration with 3rd party tools
  • integration with native SolarWinds on-premises products

Likelihood to Recommend

SolarWinds ipMonitor is well suited in situation where customer do not wants to hold the responsibility of underlying monitoring infrastructure management such as Servers, Database, website and their high availability. And of course when you need Network, Servers, Services fault and performance monitoring. When you have specialized network monitoring requirement such as Configuration backup, netflow traffic analysis then this is not the right tool.

Good network mapping software held back by some outdated design choices

Rating: 6 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SolarWinds ipMonitor is a monitoring tool for all devices in your internal network. We use it for checking the performance of the devices, as well as monitoring for unknown/rogue devices in the internal network. Any new device in the network will be added to our ipMonitor tool.

Pros

  • Gives quite some in-depth information about computer performance (CPU, disk, memory)
  • Shows known issues with critical processes on desktops
  • Easy to use and set up

Cons

  • The user interface is quite outdated
  • Scans sometimes take a very long time
  • It has a bit too many configuration options

Likelihood to Recommend

SolarWinds ipMonitor is very easy to set-up and use, but can be quite slow to execute. Therefore, I don't think it will work in a medium-to-large organisation. Also, the interface is not suited for 100s of devices. The customisibility could also be better, so enterprises that require strict branding rules need to look elsewhere.

Simple and Easy to Use Monitoring Tool

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SolarWinds ipMonitor provides basic Network and System Monitoring for small to medium n/w's. We have used it for monitoring equipment only for some of the departments (IT). It is used for troubleshooting network and system problems. It does not provide all the functionalities what SolarWinds NPM provides.

Pros

  • It is simple to implement and work with
  • Provides decent analytics
  • Needs minimum System requirements

Cons

  • Does not provide detailed information which you can expect from another tool like NPM
  • Does not integrate well with other SolarWinds modules like SAM etc

Likelihood to Recommend

SolarWinds ipMonitor can be used in small to medium sized environments. Can provide basic monitoring and easy to setup. Light Weight and easy to deploy and maintain. Provides decent analytics, dashboards and reports.

Is not useful for advanced monitoring or large sized environments. Does not integrate with other SolarWinds modules like SAM or VMAN.

Nice product to start SaaS journey with SolarWinds

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ipMonitor is being used to monitor the availability of network devices, servers and services remotely. Although, SolarWinds ipMonitor is not being used much our customers there are very few which are using still this is not a bad feedback since SolarWinds has other monitoring products are are quite effective and hence ipMonitor is very less used.

Pros

  • Simple monitoring configuration wizard
  • Out of the box alerts
  • SaaS Service
  • Built in reports and dashboard

Cons

  • Lack of integrated visibility with other infrastructure since they are being monitored separately
  • Product uniqueness is missing
  • in-built integration with major services are required
  • cloud infra monitoring integration is missing

Likelihood to Recommend

ipMonitor is well suited where there is a requirement of SaaS based fault and availability monitoring requirement and where customers do not want to purchase heavy hardware's and software to run the show. All they have to do is to subscribe ipMonitor plan and start monitoring using the simple monitoring wizard. It also has a feature of auto remediation and hence much useful

Good monitoring solution

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We're using SolarWinds ipMonitor, in addition to other SolarWinds modules such as Application monitor and Network Performance monitor, since 2017 as our global solution for monitoring.

It's been used to monitor connectivity status (response to ping, usage, availability) of thousands of network equipment and servers from all our sites in more than 40 countries. It's also configured to alert the proper technicians/analysts/teams responsible for each equipment.

Pros

  • Monitoring/alerting.
  • Reporting/dashboards.
  • Ping and service monitor.
  • Equipment discovery.

Cons

  • Could have a more friendly user interface (SLW platform is very complex in general speaking).
  • Alerts could be more flexible and easy to configure.

Likelihood to Recommend

It does a pretty decent job when it comes to monitoring. It is able to monitor a wide range of protocols/services (ICMP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP) and it has a good set of configurations for alerting. Of course, there are some 'more-flexible' tools and easier to manage, but SolarWinds ipMon is also a good choice.

Great resource!!!

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have utilized IP monitor for smaller network projects for over the past 10 years and it has assisted with giving some visibility into the network and reporting that we were able to produce for burn-in monitoring to successfully complete projects. I have also used ipMonitor in addition to the Orion Network Performance Monitor for local monitoring on a safety system in case access to the centralized management system is unavailable.

Pros

  • Visibility
  • Reporting
  • Alerting

Cons

  • Historical data
  • Configuration management

Likelihood to Recommend

I have been using ipMonitor for the past 10 years to successfully complete small to mid-size network projects by providing visibility of the network and the devices in addition to reporting to the client throughout the acceptance process. It has also proven to be a valuable resource when it comes to identifying network problems and improving overall network performance.

ipMonitor Gets the Job Done.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ipMonitor to help oversee the status of dozens of network devices across our organization by keeping track of things like performance, space and uptime. It saves the need to have to have to log in to every device to determine the status of a particular device. It's like having your own automated NOC.

Pros

  • Easily discovers devices on your network.
  • Preset network monitors for common areas of interests such as uptime, space and utilization.
  • Straightforward setup.

Cons

  • The interface could be more intuitive.
  • Alerts could be less dry.
  • Rebooting the ipMonitor host seems to trigger every monitor you've selected to send an email.

Likelihood to Recommend

In lieu of having an actual NOC or a network/system admin or even using an outside service, ipMonitor performs like an additional team member tracking network devices making sure all your critical nodes are up and active. If you are looking for a fun, visually interesting interface that you want to reference on a daily basis, ipMonitor leaves some room for improvement there.
