Why myON Reader
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We began using Renaissance myON when school closures due to COVID went into effect in 2020. Our students were able to access books and continue their AR journey, ultimately increasing literacy. Teachers were able to create assignments within the program for students to complete which ultimately led students to read more during closure. Once schools returned to in person, we continue to use myON to encourage reading. It has helped our English Learners develop their reading skills in both their native language as well as in English. Overall, myON has had a positive affect in our school.
Pros
- Helps students gain comprehension by suggesting reading materials at their level.
- Because the program has the capacity to read to the students, they get a to hear a good role model which helps develop fluency and accuracy in their reading.
- It is easy to access and helps keep students on track with their reading goals.
Cons
- It's teacher side could be a little friendlier/easier to use.
- Adding additional languages would be good.
Likelihood to Recommend
myON is a good program for all students in the middle grades. Using the suggested readings, several of our EL students have increased their vocabulary as well as overall reading proficiency in English by at least 1/2-1 grade equivalent within a school year.
