Great hyper-converged virtualisation platform.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were dealing with multiple vendors for hosts and storage. Nutanix meant we could use one vendor for both. Their support is the best we’ve dealt with as well, quick response and resolutions. Cost-wise, they were cheaper than their closest competitor. Nutanix was hosting our whole production estate and test.

Pros

  • Hyper-converged architecture.
  • Support
  • Ease of management - one interface.

Cons

  • It would be nice to have the ability to schedule snapshots.
  • Some settings are really hard to find.
  • licencing could be a bit better, as adding more features can get quite expensive.

Likelihood to Recommend

It’s a steep learning curve if you are used to VMware, but once you gain the knowledge, it’s far simpler. A lot more is done through the GUI. Integration through the cloud with NC2 is also very good. Support is the main differentiator, though, compared to other competitors, it has made our lives a lot easier.

Nutanix for everyone.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are looking for multi-cluster platform with reasonable cost for the total package and Nutanix become the first in the list. We are getting application, terminal and database running in Nutanix with High availability. Production able to run the system with best performance ever and as such less complaint we receive from end user.

Pros

  • Easy to manage.
  • Deployment was seamless.
  • Top notch performance.
  • One-click upgrade was awesome.

Cons

  • VM listing at least please make it easy to navigate like vmware vm list.
  • Event alert is not user-friendly.
  • Roles and responsibilities assignment is difficult to navigate, especially if the user is from the Domain.

Likelihood to Recommend

For an organization that requires top-notch performance HCI, Nutanix is the best. You may start with 3 nodes and expand the cluster as required. The management through Nutanix Prism Central and Element was so easy that even a Junior Engineer was able to handle it. The Nutanix platform is not suitable for organizations with a small budget and fewer requirements for high-performance infrastructure, as the Nutanix solution itself is suited for enterprises.

Why you should be ready for the feature

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am using Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure for my virtual desktop infrastructure; as far as I have no issues, Nutanix dealt with a self-healing approach, which makes me believe in using Nutanix for my upcoming projects. I have integrated my infrastructure with Citrix cloud. I was facing one problem with Nutanix files; when the files share a name created with space in between, it will give a nightmare for the users, as they don't know why their files are loading slowly. Nutanix now allowing file share name with space on 1st attempt, when you edit the share its allowing you to use space in between.

Pros

  • Updates of the infrastructure under one panel (LCM)
  • Data redundancy and replication
  • Licensing of the cluster
  • Prism Central for managing multiple cluster with playbook to play around it
  • containaraization
  • Protection domain and remote site configuration
  • Self healing mechanism

Cons

  • Nvidia updates could be better on heterogeneous infra
  • Need PC LTS and STS versions
  • API should have more features

Likelihood to Recommend

I would recommend Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure for private and public clouds for the organization, as it provides various features. AOS and AHV are NCI's main pilers, making the impossible possible. Node, block, and rack level fault tolerance with high effectiveness, I think only Nutanix can provide as they removed legacy 3-tier architecture

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure -- wish we got this years ago, no turning back

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

had a big sprawl of vm's from original and acquired companies that needed to be consolidated to manage the infrastructure. worried about staff churn with tribal knowledge we wanted to standardize and be equipped to scale out when future mergers happened. We managed with the standard Hyper visor as a individual company but as we acquired more companies it became unmanageable and the cost savings with this made ROI sense.

Pros

  • single access point
  • utilized excising resources to maximize usage
  • train up is steep but once they get it it's a breeze

Cons

  • It could have been a for use but the initial integrations we hit a few bumps but that could be the consultant that were provided

Likelihood to Recommend

On the pricier side of the scale but after it's all said and done the transformation was well worth it. We felt that the ROI was recouped as expected with better resourcing. Would love to have a staging environment as part of the overall setup but i get it, it's all related to a cost.

Scalable and Reliable

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure is used to host Virtual machines (VMs) in our organization. The business problem it addresses is we don't have to maintain any physical storage servers after moving the VMs to Nutanix cloud. The physical footprint has been eliminated and we use Nutanix to keep all our VMs running, be it production, development or testing servers.

Pros

  • Easy deployment
  • User friendly
  • Easy to update / upgrade

Cons

  • More command-line driven than GUI
  • Not enough speed at times
  • Expensive when compared to competitors

Likelihood to Recommend

Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure is well suited for any scale of organizations. Best suited when you want to migrate applications from physical centres to cloud which considerably decreases the maintenance costs.

Go with Nutanix AOS, You Will NOT be disappointed

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Nutanix AOS has been the final missing puzzle piece to moving towards a more flexible, agile, HCI based datacenter eliminating the complex management that is common with traditional or converged infrastructure. The automation pieces, especially the playbooks save so much time in larger environments by automating common tasks like expanding disk, memory, or cpu allocation to VMs. The overall UI is so much better than VMware or Citrix and the performance and ease of upgrades is on another plane compared to vxrail / vxstack or hyperflex.

Pros

  • Performance
  • User interface
  • Automation
  • Cost
  • Licensing

Cons

  • Features (more are continually added, but it is a newer product)
  • Hardware compatibility
  • Efficiency of CVM's

Likelihood to Recommend

I would highly recommend using Nutanix HCI for any of your infrastructure needs. I would highly suggest saving money and using the free included AHV hypervisor. The performance is incredible, and the data reduction capabilities are on par with vSAN. I would only recommend using ESXi with Nutanix AOS if AHV does not yet support some one-off configurations or if you still want to use horizon while the frame is still growing.

Competitive HCI Vendor

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We've been using Nutanix AOS to consolidate our converged infrastructure (CI) to hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) across our entire estate. This has meant quicker deployment, less rack space, and simpler management overall. We stuck with using ESXi as our hypervisor as it gives us the most flexibility with the existing tools we need for operational support. Hoping to add Nutanix Files later on to consolidate the many file servers and shares across the business, additional capacity for this can easily be added via the Nutanix Storage nodes.

Pros

  • Scales easily through addition of extra nodes to the cluster
  • Easy to upgrade
  • AHV included to help keep some of the costs down

Cons

  • Integration with 3rd party tools
  • Prism is limited if you use ESXi as your hypervisor
  • Tied to certain hardware vendors

Likelihood to Recommend

Nutanix AOS is well suited to:

Redundancy and resilience of your hardware

Largely manage itself, lots of checks done via Nutanix Cluster Check (NCC)

24/7 Operations where you have contractual commitments to keep

Support is second to none

Free online educational material (which is up-to-date too!)

On the downside, Nutanix AOS is probably not a good solution if:

Cost is your primary concern, maybe stick with vSphere or HyperV

24x7 uptime is not critical

There may be times when you need to work at a command line for features not in the GUI yet or general support requirements

Nutanix AOS - The hybrid multi-cloud product that simplifies things

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Nutanix AOS is used across the whole organization as we manage a total of 3 clusters covering all our needs; storage, virtualization, networking, database.

Pros

  • Failover
  • Scalability

Cons

  • Gap between CLI and GUI functionalities

Likelihood to Recommend

Nutanix AOS is well suited for redundancy and scalability. But the overall performance is one level below dedicated hardware for some workloads.

Experience with Nutanix AOS

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Nutanix AOS is being used by [the] IT department, but indirectly it is being used across the whole organization. We did face some issues while migrating load from VMWare to AHV. Some of our legacy applications are not supported by AHV. Moreover, AHV does not have [the] capability to add existing disk or disk belongs to other VM. [I feel] it is also difficult to create a template in AHV.

Pros

  • "Nutanix is an operating system playing inside an existing, rich IT ecosystem." Listen to Wendy M. Pfeiffer, CIO of Nutanix, as she shares game-changing results with the implementation of infrastructure-as-code.
  • With one-click simplicity, Nutanix AOS streamlines IT operations and relieves budget pressures by integrating storage, networking, and compute services into a single solution managed by IT generalists. Start small and scale without limit to meet business demands.
  • Deliver applications with the highest possible performance throughout the full lifecycle, not just day one. Provide reliable performance SLAs without worrying about workload changes or growth in application demands.

Cons

  • Nutanix AOS does not have template functionality like in VMWare.
  • [In my experience] Nutanix AOS does not have [the] functionality to add existing disk or disk belongs to other VM like in VMWare.
  • Nutanix AOS does not have the functionality to see backup snapshots at DR site. For example, if you have multiple Nutanix clusters then you cannot have snapshots of other clusters. You need to retrieve the entire snapshots of your Protection Domain to restore your desired backup.

Likelihood to Recommend

After using Foundation to create a cluster, you can use the Nutanix web console to join the Hyper-V cluster and its constituent hosts to the domain, create the Hyper-V failover cluster, and enable Kerberos. If you are installing Windows Server 2016, you do not have to enable Kerberos. Kerberos is enabled during cluster creation.
