Review Planview PPM Pro Tool

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Planview PPM Pro as our Project Management Tool in [...] IT. We enter project requests which are reviewed and quoted by the delivery teams and then approved by the Business Relationship Management in the workflow. Later they are turned into Projects and we manage the projects in the Tool. We are trying to have all the Projects from [...] IT in that Tool because we also do Reporting on the Projects. These reports are mostly for our VPs and Business Partners to see the overview of what is going on currently.

Pros

  • Management of Project deliverables and milestones
  • Portfolio Management
  • Demand Management

Cons

  • Manage detailed project tasks
  • Implementation of new workflows catered to company's needs
  • resource management

Likelihood to Recommend

Planview PPM Pro is for centralized project solution is good.

Maybe not so suitable for large enterprise solution.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My organization uses PPM Pro for Project and Portfolio Management. It is highly configurable, allowing us maximum flexibility in adding or removing data points and generating many reports and dashboards to monitor project progress and health.

Pros

  • Reports and Dashboards.
  • Request Queues and Workflows.
  • Calculated Fields.

Cons

  • Resource reporting integrating with other project reporting.
  • User permissions need to be easier to set up and understand.
  • Predictive Portfolio Analysis.

Likelihood to Recommend

Planview is wonderful if you have a large number of projects and want to group them into portfolios. It seems less useful if you have only a handful of projects.

Planview PPM Pro

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Planview PPM Pro for project and portfolio management as our System of Record for all projects. Planview allows for visibility across all levels of the organization of ongoing and planned projects. Using Planview allows us to have a seamless progression from demand intake to project creation. It also allows us to track project phases and process gates. Another benefit of Planview is that is allows us to manage resources with its resource capacity tracking capabilities.

Pros

  • Easily track project phases and process gates
  • Seamless progression from request to project creation
  • Reporting & Dashboards - Projects/Request Status

Cons

  • There is no collaboration tool (messaging, chat, etc.) within Planview
  • The user interface can be difficult to follow, cumbersome to navigate
  • Creating reports is not intuitive - need training to know how to create even basic reports/dashboards

Likelihood to Recommend

Planview PPM Pro has been super helpful for planning and managing projects and requests. I think the reporting has great insight to request and project management. However, it can be quite difficult to create simple reports. The report builder is not very easy to use, and is missing many capabilities seen in various other reporting tools. Being able to have visibility to all current requests and being able to easily turn it into a project is extremely useful.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Within my organization, PMO uses PPMPro in order to track action items, issues, decisions, as well as time allocations for project core team members, project priority ranking, and core team member assignments. PMO uses all of the information for our projects in PPMPro to create dashboards for senior leadership presentations and communications. PMO also uses PPMPro as a one-stop shop for all things project related and enforces its use amongst our dedicated project core teams.

Pros

  • Resource allocation
  • Action item tracking
  • Dashboards

Cons

  • Issue tracking
  • Project to project depedencies
  • Financial calculator

Likelihood to Recommend

PPMPro is well suited for tracking new product introduction projects, as well as process changes. It serves to reliably track ongoing action items, issues, resource allocations for projects.

Areas where PPMPro is less appropriate for use: Project to project dependencies, automating action item notifications on multiple platforms, integrations of PPMPro into other platforms PMO typically uses (like MS Projects, Teams, ppt, etc)

PPM Pro provides a good solution for the basics of project management for an enterprise

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use PPM Pro to manage projects and strategic programs. We use for the details of project and capacity management, tracking risks and issues, sharing information, and providing transparency to our portfolio of work.

Pros

  • Customer support via tickets
  • Options for paid consulting
  • Frequent webinars and roadmap updates

Cons

  • It is confusing at times to determine when you can get assistance or have to use paid consulting.
  • The task management portion of PPM Pro can be cumbersome for the PMs I work with.

Likelihood to Recommend

PPM Pro is well suited as is for customers tracking waterfall projects or managing agile tasks elsewhere and making data from that tool available for reporting. Another tool would likely be better for a team or department that is fully agile.
