QoE and Shaper that helps offer a great customer experience

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Preseem for 3 main use cases. First is QoE, Quality of Experience, which allows us to see our overall network performance as well as individual Access Points. This helps show us if an AP is providing a good experience or if there's issues causing poor speeds and latency. After we are able to fix the problem, we use Preseem to verify improvements in speed/latency.

Second, we use Preseem for rate plan shaping using FQ_CODEL, which helps rate limit the customer speeds to the plan they're paying for while maintaining low latency. Instead of a sluggish experience while they max out their speeds, all applications still feel quick and without issues with VOIP or gaming.

Third, we have Preseem send usage data back to Azotel, our billing system, so we can monitor for abusive usage and handle data thresholds to provide fair usage to all customers.

Pros

  • Excellent web interface that shows all the relevant performance data
  • Great customer service
  • Fair pricing
  • Great rate plan shaping to maintain low latency
  • API integration with our billing systems and many others

Cons

  • Better help guides to train users like our office staff
  • Lack of DPI to classify traffic for customer education

Likelihood to Recommend

For any ISP that wants to know the QoE their customers experience while using their service, Preseem is an excellent choice. The rate plan shaping also makes sure the connection feels fast, even if the speeds are being 100% utilized by the customer. This is not a DPI service though, so you can't classify or shape certain services over others. All traffic is treated fairly, and small flows are moved to the front of the queue to make sure interactive traffic like VOIP, DNS, and gaming is working well ahead of large downloads.

Is Preseem really what the sales team say it is?

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Preseem now for a year. not that much, but enough to say something about it. The initial ordering and environment development on our side was a pain in the neck. we had to basically change our entire business structure to get it installed. at last, it was installed and the machine was switched on in the production network. So here is my experience: I got Preseem because of FQ-Codel (QoE). I can seriously say that I don't even know if it's working. clients still call and complain about QOE. I found 1 client that was watching Netflix while the son was playing PS2. it worked there. and the other clients, well, still complaining. there is just no way for me to know if FQ-Codel actually does something on the network or not. on the support side, Preseem is brilliant. I can dig deep to find a problem. however, it is impossible to see inside a client's network and make recommendations. so as a network support tool for data gathering, Preseem is the way to go. I can also check the condition of my towers, though some towers won't display is Preseem. If Preseem had a client portal, and the client could see their current bandwidth usage in real-time, like we at administration can, Preseem would be a game-changer, because that is the most common issue. (our internet is slow and buffering) because who knows if FQ-Codel actually does something. and then as we check their accounts, we see how they punch the line. we found a device, Amplify instant, that shows clients the same thing Preseem shows us in the admin portal. so if I sell that to all my clients, my headache is gone. but the client won't pay 2.5 grand for it. So, Preseem, how about adding a client portal hey? I truly can in an honest way tell why I have Preseem. the dashboard looks great though, and we can track data usage there, and that is about that I suppose. [...]

Pros

  • Data for support
  • Looks cool
  • can see problems on my network

Cons

  • Client portal
  • Client portal
  • Client portal

Likelihood to Recommend

Data for support No client portal to stop clients from freaking out on us when the client is punching their own line.

Preseem - One of the best decisions we ever made

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Preseem is used throughout our entire network. We use it to manage and shape all traffic within our network. The metrics that we derive from Preseem's interface help us to deeply troubleshoot data throughout issues that our end users may be experiencing. It allows us to rely on actual hard historical and current data. So often it is just so easy to blame the ISP for poor network performance when in reality it is often an internal issue. The data from Preseem allows us to show the end-user what is actually happening. It gives them greater confidence in us as a provider.

Pros

  • Graphical real time data of condition of our network.
  • Real-time data of network performance, network-wide, tower site-wide, sector-wide, and down to the subscriber level. Data that is both current and historical so we can see trends happening before a service-impacting issue arises.
  • The comparison of our network equipment performance compared to identical equipment that others have deployed throughout their entire customer base.

Cons

  • The equipment and software are so complete that I feel we are not even using it to its vast potential.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited for ISP's and network managers. Not necessary for Betty's Hair Salon or Don's Muffler Shop.

I recommend Preseem to every ISP that I consult or collaborate with.

New Lisbon Telephone Recommends Preseem

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Preseem is being used to control, monitor, and improve internet services to our fixed wireless customer base. It helps us control the speed of each client as well as improve QoE Quality of Experience to the end-user. Prior to having Preseem in our network, speed control was a nightmare and customers were always complaining of slow internet speeds. After Preseem was put in, those complaints have dropped to almost none. Preseem also gives us good tools to use to diagnose network issues and usage habits. It is a vital part of our network.

Pros

  • QoE
  • Speed control.
  • Usage monitoring.

Cons

  • More reporting options.
  • Little more customization on what we see.
  • Ways to setup network devices in the interface.

Likelihood to Recommend

The fixed wireless market and DSL are perfect opportunities for Preseem use. Not sure as speed increases that the issues of QoE are as needed. Fiber optics may not gain the benefits of slower technologies.

Network management tool you needed yesterday

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In short, it gives me peace of mind that my network is running smoothly and my customers are getting what they pay for. We use Preseem to shape our customer traffic and monitor the overall health of the network. It's a great tool to enforce your different speed tiers without sacrificing significant resources. Preseem is also an amazing tool to help with troubleshooting. You can identify if issues are AP, tower, or network-specific with an easy-to-use GUI that graphs all of the relevant data points for your network.

Pros

  • Shaping customer traffic to exactly the speeds you sell them.
  • Streamlining network maintenance/troubleshooting.
  • Easy to use GUI.

Cons

  • The tool could stand to be a little less engineered, but really the ROI isn't there for them to do so. I don't think most of us care about how pretty it looks, more so does it work and can I figure it out in relatively short order.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are running an ISP OR you are managing a private network (like a hotel) with specified speed tiers then you need Preseem.
