The SAM module pricing went from getting an unlimited license for $40k to a 2000 node license for 5 times that amount. … However, the node based pricing makes the cost justification difficult for the majority of nodes that only use a few component monitors.

Due to SolarWinds' license with the Orion Platform I can see the price point being an issue for smaller users who may not have the budget. … When we talk about ROI it has already paid for itself.

But if you have deep pockets the upfront SQL license and $3000 a year SAM support license is not too much for what you get. … You MUST buy a SQL license for anything above NPM 12.2 and SAM 6.6.

AppInsight suites bundle a large number of monitors for a low overall component hit (SAM is licensed by component) that would otherwise require a much larger number of components to provide the same... … That makes an expensive product quickly more expensive.

While the renewal price is only 20% of the initial purchase price, it can be difficult to get approval for the initial purchase. … When purchasing a license for Server & Application Monitoring, we received 100 additional Nodes and volume to monitor as part of the purchase.

While there were some year two and year three cost savings associated with migrating to another platform, we decided that the monetary value would be lost in retraining and lack of ease of us. … NPM is also a great piece of software, but there is a market share being lost in smaller companies where a paid product is better than Spiceworks, but there is no budget.
