Feature Rich Solution and with Good Support.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Vinchin Backup and Recovery for the last 3 years for VM backups and MySQL backups. For VM backups, we use it with the XCP-NG hypervisor to take backups of 450 VMs in a week, and it has been very efficient and fast. For MySQL backups, we received customized support from the Vinchin team; they worked with us to support our older MySQL version 5.7 on Ubuntu 18.0. The Vinchin team’s support is very responsive and usually takes very little time to resolve any reported issue.

Pros

  • VM Backup is really good which we are using hosted in XCP-NG Hypervisor.
  • MYSQL Hot Backup is good, we are using for multiple versions.
  • Support is very prompt.

Cons

  • It doesn't support older MySQL versions like MySQL 5.6, and it also doesn't support newer versions of MySQL, e.g., MySQL 8.1, on which the team is working.

Return on Investment

  • We have been using Vinchin for the last 3 years, and we have had no issues with VM backups. VM backups are taken for approximately 450 VMs using multiple schedules.
  • For MySQL, we are using the Community edition, where the native hot backup solution is not available. Using Vinchin, we can take hot backups at regular intervals, which have significantly reduced our RPO. Earlier, we used to take MYSQL backup using our own scripts only once a day, at night. After using Vinchin, now it's every 2hours.
  • Support is very prompt. Whenever an issue arises, we get support in the WhatsApp group created for our organization.

Veeam Data Platform

The Ultimate Budget-Friendly Backup Alternative for SMEs

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

First of all, setting up Vinchin was really easy, and it was straightforward. Since it is a Linux platform, it is more secure with the proper configurations. The main advantage was for us to migrate our VMware VM to a Hyper-V environment with the Vinchin Backup. Furthermore, adding multiple backup repositories like Local drive, SMB share, etc

Pros

  • Most of the Hypervisors are compatible
  • Instant virtual machine
  • Cross-Platform V2V Migration
  • CDP
  • Agentless and agent base backup

Cons

  • Granular level recovery -Like AD objects, exchange has to be improve
  • Backup application consistent backup feature for agentless
  • Scale out backup repository (SOBR) feature
  • Advance reporting (like VeeamOne)

Return on Investment

  • License cost, terms are very reasonable and worth for the functions
  • In my experience, it does not require a specific skillset to Install manage Vinchin Backup (who has Veeam experience more than enough)
  • When talk about security of the backup infra, less vulnerable since the Vinchin Platform is Linux, with the proper hardening does job
  • Can create multiple Interfaces to traverse the backup traffic instead of the management interface, I personally like this (For backup traffic 10G)

A very flexible backup system

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I'm a reseller and have been installing Vinchin for my customers for over six years. Vinchin Backup has solved several problems for me thanks to its support for multiple virtualization platforms and cross-platform recovery. The latter is also very useful for migrations from one platform to another. My primary use has been to back up the Sangfor HCI cluster.

Pros

  • Backup of Sangfor HCI, Vmware vSphere, Hyper-V and many others
  • Cross Platform Restore. for example I migrated Xen's XCP-ng virtualizer VMs to Hyper-V

Cons

  • The management and configuration of backup job scheduling could be improved, even if it already allows you to plan in almost all possible ways.
  • no other missing features

Return on Investment

  • We provided paid backup contracts using Vinchin Backup and Recovery. Thanks to the product's lifetime support, they were able to keep costs down.
  • nothing else

The best backup and restore tools who support cross Platform.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am using Vinchin Backup & Recovery for my virtualization infrastructure, including Proxmox, VMware, and XCP-NG. With Vinchin Backup & Recovery, we can back up and restore cross-platform. Like backing up from Proxmox and restoring it on XCP-Ng, and vice versa.

Pros

  • Backup cross platform.
  • Restore cross platform.
  • Integrate with object storage.

Cons

  • Please improve regarding log details. The error on the log does not clear.
  • Please make it as installer. So we can install VBR on another platform like Ubuntu.

Return on Investment

  • The positive impact is I have a good tool for some projects about VMware exit.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication

Cross-Platform Migration Tool.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In our environment, we have always faced challenges in finding a truly reliable backup platform. We had used several commercial backup solutions, but they often came with unnecessary complexity and were difficult to manage. Our biggest challenge arose when we needed to migrate workloads from oVirt to VMware using our existing backup solution. Unfortunately, this was not possible due to product limitations and technical issues. Vinchin was one of the backup platforms we evaluated to help us accomplish this migration. At first, there was the expected learning curve when adopting the platform. However, because Vinchin provides a simple and intuitive interface, the migration process was as smooth as possible. Its integration with multiple virtualization platforms gave us the flexibility we needed not only to perform backups, but also to migrate virtual machines seamlessly between different virtualization environments.

Pros

  • Virtual machine and file backup across multiple platforms.
  • Workload migration across multiple virtualization platforms.
  • Multiple backup and restore strategies.

Cons

  • It would be beneficial to have a simpler way to implement both hot and cold backup strategies without requiring multiple backup jobs, so that the most recent backups are stored on faster storage while older backups are automatically kept on slower, lower-cost storage.
  • Support for S3-compatible storage backends for storing this type of backup data.

Return on Investment

  • The platform migration process saved us weeks of manual work and testing with alternative tools.
  • Support for multiple backup storage backends prevented us from being locked into a specific storage or NAS vendor.
