Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Used to collect and monitor data from customers to resolve business problems. Its proactive self-service support technology is being used to serve customer requests. It also automatically and securely collects, aggregates and analyzes customer specific product usage data to identify potential issues and improve time-to-resolution. Which would ultimately result in to quick response for customer requests.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well suited to analyze DDoS attacks on my application. This helped me to gain visibility into the traffic. Enhanced reactive and proactive support, Privacy and Security, Dashboard view, Inventory, Proactive findings, Skyline log assist, Upgrade recommendations & Operational Summary Report (OSR). Its Holistic view and Integrated reporting also helps a lot.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

VMware Skyline is an overview of your current VMware environment showing details ranging from EOL drivers and products to suggestions on improving security.

Pros

  • VMware Skyline showed me my end of life cisco drivers.
  • Skyline listed unsupported VMtools and listed the VMs using such versions.
  • Skyline listed out-of-date hardware compatibility versions and the VMs matching such versions.

Cons

  • Skyline users are assigned by the administrators. It would be nice if users could request accounts so approval is all that is needed.

Likelihood to Recommend

VMware Skyline is free yet is priceless. Skyline gives you the health of your VMware products in a single pane. Here you not only get issues pointed out to you but the suggested solutions for each issue. Doesn't get better than this.

It helps us keep track of vulnerabilities in our VMware environment. We use it for all of our VMware environments.

Pros

  • Scans for vulnerabilities.
  • Gives advice on how to resolve issues.
  • Upgrades automatically.

Cons

  • Sometimes the recommendations do not make sense.
  • Sometimes the advice is general, but not for us.
