Overall Satisfaction with VMware Skyline
VMware Skyline is an overview of your current VMware environment showing details ranging from EOL drivers and products to suggestions on improving security.
- VMware Skyline showed me my end of life cisco drivers.
- Skyline listed unsupported VMtools and listed the VMs using such versions.
- Skyline listed out-of-date hardware compatibility versions and the VMs matching such versions.
- Skyline users are assigned by the administrators. It would be nice if users could request accounts so approval is all that is needed.
- Skyline scans for security related issues.
- Skyline points out out of date hardware drivers.
- VMware Skyline has no cost except for the small footprint the appliance VM uses.
- Zero cap cost, unlimited returns. WIN WIN!
- SolarWinds Virtualization Manager (VMAN) and vRealize Orchestrator
I've used other products such as VMAN and such yet Skyline is different. This is not aimed at your virtual machine's internal usage but at the VMware / Hypervisor level. This looks and monitors at hardware drivers, VMtools versions, and VM hardware versions. If you have Horizon it will look at versions and current vs minimum driver versions.
