Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We've partnered with WatchGuard for many years. Our focus has been on the Firebox edge security appliances primarily, but we've also used the MFA and subscription services. WatchGuard Network Security has provided an excellent product for protecting network infrastructure and client resources. It's very cost competitive with other vendors and the support is great. Even as more workloads move to cloud services, we still find interface and payment systems in the local environments that need protecting.

Pros

WatchGuard Network Security streamlines the creation of policy objects, allowing them to be used in multiple security policies without recreating them or having to manually create global objects.
WatchGuard Network Security also provides a clear and simplified configuration interface rather than requiring a complex CLI.
There are a couple of options for centralized management, both in the cloud and on a private server, which allows for ease of visibility into multiple devices. Features are consistently being added to the cloud offering as well.

Cons

Some of the logic in the security policies of the Auth-Point Identity management doesn't follow the same as the appliances. It's not as clear as it could be when creating conditional access policies.
The Endpoint security offerings are still lacking some integration and feel like they need to be more mature before we'd consider deploying them.
I can understand the reasoning behind offering wireless network hardware, but it seems unnecessary and isn't as robust as other vendor hardware.

WatchGuard Network Security is a true next generation firewall vendor, and they are constantly improving their products. The account management is engaged, and support is responsive and knowledgeable. We've had consistent quality experiences with deployment and warranty response. The feature set is robust and effective when properly configured. Any questions or concerns with configuration have always been handled efficiently and effectively. They've been a great vendor to partner with.

The business problems that the product addresses are security and compliance and we resell it for firewall protection or FWaaS in an Azure environment. WatchGuard Network Security is an essential tool to make sure our clients feel safe and secure, which helps their businesses run more efficiently.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WatchGuard Network Security devices across all sites in the organization for both perimeter security as well as site-to-site tunnel encryption. Web site blocking and filtering on both broad site classifications as well as specific sites reduce the chances of accessing unwanted or malicious sites. The botnet blocker helps prevent random attack attempts from known sources.

The ability to configure and manage with both the System Manager and the Web UI is great. Their support is great and usually solve most questions on the first call.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a SMB IT Company I deal with a lot of SMB companies. I am also a cyber security expert and need to have a product that doesn't keep me awake at night wondering if one of my customers is going to get hacked. I have also tried many different firewalls, from Sonicwalls to Cisco and have come to trust and rely on WatchGuard Network Security Firewalls as my security blanket. They have the forsite to include needed up to date changes to security threats.

I base a lot of my decisions on the quality of support. With WatchGuard Network Security, I have yet to be disappointed. They always know the answer or send me to someone that had the answer. The competors pale in comparison. I highly recommend switching your enterprise firewall needs to one of the WatchGuard family of products. I'm a customer for life.

Technical Support is better far exceeds others. They are less expensive than what is considered industry top tier with equivelent robustness of product features and offerings. I think if you have a small restaurant perhaps a WatchGuard Network Security may be too much. I have placed these in medium to large businesses, leaving the smaller business on a different platform instead.

We use WatchGuard Network Security to protect our users from outside threats. We also use the VPN to allow our accountant to securely access our network so that they can assist the accounting department when they need help.

Pros

VPN security is robust and gives several different options for encryption.
The ability to limit sites that our users access is a great help.

Cons

The VPN setup was not clear and even support had trouble figuring out how to resolve my issue.

WatchGuard is a great network security tool, a lot easier billing wise compared to Cisco's offering, it has been an easy to describe tool in a complete package. Central management and including free training on the WatchGuard portal have been a no brainer.
