What is WorkOS?

WorkOS, headquartered in San Francisco, provides developer APIs and software building blocks to make cloud applications enterprise-ready, delivering modular features required by enterprise IT administrators. The platform supports Single Sign-On across any identity provider using SAML or OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocols wrapped in standard OAuth 2.0 flows, and enables automated user provisioning and lifecycle management through SCIM and HRIS directory synchronization.

Enterprise Identity & Authentication
WorkOS provides Authentication infrastructure through AuthKit, a hosted, customizable user interface supporting passwordless authentication (Magic Auth via email verification codes), passkeys, social logins, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) via Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) and SMS. For enterprise deployments, WorkOS centralizes authentication flows across identity providers such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, Ping Identity, and OneLogin.

Access Control & Authorization
Through integrated Authorization engines, WorkOS provides both Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Fine-Grained Authorization (FGA) based on relationship-based access control models. Development teams can define organizational permissions, assign custom roles, enforce tenant-level access boundaries, and verify domain ownership directly within application workflows.

IT Administration & Audit Infrastructure
The Admin Portal is a hosted, self-serve onboarding interface that allows customer IT administrators to configure and troubleshoot their own SAML, OIDC, and SCIM connections without engineering intervention. For enterprise compliance, WorkOS provides SIEM-compatible audit log streaming and export capabilities, allowing applications to ingest, record, and emit structured audit events to enterprise security tools.

Application Security & Posture
WorkOS includes Radar, an automated bot-mitigation and abuse-detection engine designed to defend authentication endpoints against credential stuffing and anomalous traffic. For data security, WorkOS Vault offers dedicated credential isolation and data encryption for sensitive tenant assets. The platform also provides an official Command-Line Interface (CLI) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) server support, enabling programmatic configuration and automated developer workflows.
