Overall Satisfaction with 7-Zip

We were looking for a compression software with good performance and a command line interface for batch jobs. Its' fast in opening and executing enven in the graphic environment thanks to the minimalist interface. Last but not least is completely free with no trace of ads or boring trial periods countdowns
  • compress/decompress fast
  • interface easy of use
  • command line capabilities
  • various format supported
  • multiplatform
  • outdated interface... but is very quick and is not so bad
  • improve speed of compression algorithm
  • some compressed files are not fully supported
  • 0 cost with no suprises
  • 1 tool for many formats
  • 0 time needed to learn how to use
7-Zip is free of charge and meets all our needs in handling compressed files, both those produced by us and those that come from third parties.
The interface is the faster I've ever seen.
The competitor evaluation versions have ads or a lot of reminders that I've to pay now or then.

Fast for preview zipped files.
Very good compress ratio in 7z format.
Old style interface, but quick and easy to learn.
Command line version with parameter switches for batch scripts.
In advance settings the amount of concurrent threads can be decided by the user.
Free of charge without advertisement, bloatware o potentially unwanted program.
A bit slow and cpu consuming when there are a lot of heavy files

Evaluating 7-Zip and Competitors

Yes - We have dismiss any other compression tool. No mor WinZip, WinRAR, peazip and similar. Previously each user could choose the piece of software they preferred, but there was a problem of standards and time was wasted trying to decode proprietary formats or even to resend files re-encoded in a different format.

7zip has not been purchased, but we are considering making a donation to support the development of this utility. The fact that it is free has helped it penetrate users' habits. Its interface is far too simple, but it is clear and you don't waste time learning how to use it.
There are no second thoughts. Simple and reliable tools that do their job quick and well are always the best choices. I hope the development of this program never ends. The only reason that could push me to replace it would be the closure of the project. Long life to 7zip
