Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Marketo Engage

I mostly use Adobe Marketo Engage for the handling and automation of our b2b marketing efforts. It’s the primary place where I build emails, scoring leads and running nurture programs for all my different segments. I use it alongside my team, every day to help us to stay on message, track engagement and make sure qualified leads are handed over sales with context.

Pros

  • By leveraging smart campaigns and segmentation tools I can actually laser target leads more effectively that allows me to do so without any manual intervention.
  • I love the depth of its integration with our CRM as every activity associated to a lead like email open, form fill and what not syncs through and literally keeps sales in line.
  • The analytics dashboard in Maketo Engage is quite useful and provides me with great insight and context so I can understand what is working versus what isnt.

Cons

  • The interface is also kind of old and maybe slow sometimes, like when you change workspace or clone stuff.
  • Complex nurture flows grow unwieldy quickly if something goes wrong and debugging the logic is more of a headache than it should be.
  • Reporting setup isn’t as intuitive as I’d like to see and lots of time spent figuring out how to efficiently pull good data.
  • It has allowed us to reduce lead to mql cycle since we can automate and prioritize follow ups on behavior scoring.
  • Additionally the enhanced campaign tracking and attribution data have made it easier to track marketings direct impact on pipeline growth.
  • It saved us countless hour of manual labor particularly in the areas of repeated email sends and list management so members of our team can spend more time forming strategy.

I would suggest Marketo Engage for marketing teams that are looking for structure, scalable tools and integration with Salesforce or other CRMs. Once you’re used to it, it’s wonderful but getting used to it, takes time and patience. For small teams or companies with low tech resources, it can feel at first heavy and over engineered.
