Overall Satisfaction with Altium 365
Altium 365 is great for facilitating collaborative work on PCB design projects. While most ECAD software make it difficult for a large electronics team to coordinate on PCB design, Altium 365 provides a host of features that makes teamwork easy. One feature I especially enjoy is its version control system, where engineers may perform commits and view their peers' progress over the lifetime of a PCB project. Additionally, because Altium 365 has a friendly UI and great documentation, incoming entry-level engineers may feasibly become skillful with PCB design and engineers with a PCB background may adapt to this product without any issues. Overall, the ease of use provided by Altium 365 has made our team more productive and effective in delivering high-quality PCBs.
Pros
- Version control
- Friendly UI and ease of use
- Electronic components management
- Schematic creation and import
- Plentiful features for PCB design in areas such as routing and thermal management
- Detailed DRC reports
Cons
- Real-time teamwork on same schematic sheets and PCB designs without conflict
- Importing parts into the Altium 365 workspace should be somewhat easier
- There could be less bumps associated with obtaining a student license
- Allowed our team to turn out PCB designs as early as 2 months before our deadlines
- Better team retention as Altium 365 is not frustrating to use
- Mitigated costs through reliably accurate DRC reports, avoiding bad PCB designs to be sent for fabrication
In terms of collaborative work, Altium 365 is the easiest to use since KiCad nor OrCAD have sophisticated infrastructure for team members to interact with each other. By allowing features such as organizations and version control, Altium 365 is by far the best product for collaborative work. Additionally, electronics parts management and creation is better in Altium 365 than the other products. Actions such as importing schematic libraries, creating bills of materials, and conducting simulations are simply better in Altium 365.
