Overall Satisfaction with Azure Blob Storage
We're using it to store SQL Server backups and audit logs. It's relatively cheap storage and because our data already exists in Azure, there are no ingress or egress fees. It's secure, always available, and very easy to access and use.
- We can backup directly from Azure VMs running SQL Server, no copying around.
- We can store SQL Audit logs directly in Azure Storage, no copying around.
- So far we haven't run into anything that's a problem for us or that we'd do differently.
- At the moment, it's probably the different storage tiers. Data that we don't need online and is immediately available can automatically be moved to cold storage, recoverable in hours but incredibly cheap.
- What we most like is the cost savings. It's considerably cheaper to save to Azure Blob Storage than a disk attached to our VMs.
We didn't actually evaluate anything but Azure Blob Storage since it worked so well for backups and Audit logs and the price point was good enough for us.
