Perfect for my needs..makes my job easier.
Overall Satisfaction with BMC AMI DevX
I primarily use BMC Devx Workbench. I'm able to view various windows in one place which saves me time from switching to various screens/monitors.If someone has a question I can view my job output, JCL, source and data used rather quickly.
Pros
- The tool I use is fairly intuitive. It doesn't take long to be using it full time.
- Changing the layout/view is fairly easy. This allows it to fit individual preferences.
- It is helpful to be able to view specific windows in full screen. Usually, I have it set up to view multiple windows, but sometimes, I just want to view one window in full-screen mode.
Cons
- We use CA Librarian here, and the workbench doesn't play well with that. I can't view the library my source is in; I have to copy it to a PDS.
- I frequently make some copies of files on my own. I do each file at a time. The ability to create a macro to do all of them at once would be nice. Currently, I click the file and click 'copy to', then fill out the info for each file.
- I can debug (expeditor) much faster and more efficiently. In fact, I was asked yesterday to run their job through Workbench Expeditor. I can also view data movement much better.
- Code analysis lets me give a quicker explanation of what a program may do, as it provides a graphical interface showing processing and data movement.
It has improved my experience by giving me a tool that makes the job more enjoyable. I've been doing this a long time, and using the mainframe legacy tools (green screen) can wear on you. It saves me some redundant tasks and allows me to get to the root of a problem or issue.
