Overall Satisfaction with CentOS
[CentOS is] Used as a minimal Linux system for mail handling and web reverse proxying.
- Robust
- Good package management
- Fast security patching
- Increase number of standard packages rather than having to use EPEL releases
- Increase speed of getting latest version of base packages
- More Stable arm builds
- Software costs dramatically fell when we moved our web farm from Windows to CentOS
- Time wasted on maintaining and patching reduced as we moved to automated methods
- Easier to meet an agile development strategy
CentOS is lightweight. I can run it fine on virtual machines with as little as 512Mb RAM; that's impossible using Windows Server.
