Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI)

I have deployed Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure on multiple clients, some using it for the entire organization and some for the datacenter only. It can be implemented in multipod and also in multisite. At the time of implementation, I did not find any problem, raising the ACI fabric is a simple task that can be done in minutes.

  • Integration only with VCenter
  • Expensive compared with another SDN solutions.
The integration with VMWare is very useful because the Vcenter can be managed from the APIC. Port-groups and even VDS can be created from the ACI administration.
The ACI fabric provides consistent low-latency forwarding across high-bandwidth links (40 Gbps and
100-Gbps).
My personal opinion is that in terms of security you always have to think about implementing a firewall, ACI does not fulfill the functions of a firewall.

With Cisco ACI you get a solution with a single vendor, NSX is only software, so the physical layer will always have to be from another vendor.

According to the selected implementation (multisite or multipod) it is a very powerful tool where you can manage all the devices of a data center from single management. If we need a multisite solution we must add another product to manage the fabrics of each site.
