Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI)

Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure is being implemented in the IBM datacenter to manage internal user traffic on the applications that are used and in turn separate external users with tenant.

The platform is managed by the IT people from our datacenter.

The platform has a very high scalability and that makes network migrations easier for implementers, it also has features that connect to the cloud.

Pros

  • Manage multiple devices easily.
  • Visibility for local data centers and public or hybrid clouds.
  • With ACI the network can be provisioned in a matter of minutes.

Cons

  • At first it is very difficult to understand the whole interface.
  • It is very expensive compared to other solutions.
  • Traffic within the network works more efficiently without generating failures.
  • In my view, the platform is not suitable for small clients or for small implementations since the cost of the platform is not cheap.
I do not give it 10 because the platform evolves more and more every day in the data traffic of the datacenter.

But the implementations that they carry out for different clients of the platform are very happy with the result of the same over time.

Another point that you notice about the platform, despite its good performance, is the low use of energy used by this 24x7 on, it is a good fact to take into account for our environment.
The scalability of the platform is very high depending on the equipment that is purchased and how the engineer designs the solution to be implemented for the client or for himself.

At the software level, having many features makes scalability easy and more than it is constantly updated by Cisco.
Internal security is high but that is not enough, as I mentioned earlier it is necessary to install a firewall on the network. TACACS can also be implemented and integrated to have greater security for users who enter the platform daily.

The separation by means of tenant of the different external and internal clients worked very well for us thanks to the Cisco ACI platform.

Thanks to this, it was possible to generate a security model that was too much, but this does not mean that you do not have to implement a firewall in the network since Cisco ACI is not a firewall.
