Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI)

We implement and support data center infrastructure for government and enterprise companies. This provides quick and clean GUI for the operation teams. It allows us to do template development for ease of implementation.

The multi-pod design allows us to create geo-redundancy to assure 99.9999% uptime on all applications for the government. This assures vital governmental functionality to be always available.

For Enterprise and service providers, Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure allows us quick scalability and integration with VMWare and Openshift to ease the deployment of new applications.

Pros

  • GUI
  • Scalability
  • Integration with 3rd party DC infrastructure
  • Redundancy
  • SDN

Cons

  • Lack of information for new network engineers
  • Upgrading of the Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure should be easier
  • Lack of explanation for some of the errors we see within the APIC
  • We have seen a growth in the number of applications we can deploy and support at any given time.
  • Due to the geo-redundancy multi-pod designs, we have managed to increase the availability of all applications to 99.9999%.
  • The integration with VMware allows the reduction on the number of engineers that are required for the operational tasks.
The implementation and integration of new devices and sites has been reduced by 5 days. The deployment process for new applications has been made easy and quick for us.

Integrating new Tenants is simplified. We have an integration with UCS Director which also helps a lot.
We use REST API calls with python scripts for deployment of new bare-metal servers.
We have an integration with VMWare that also deploys it's own EPGs, APs and Tenants.

Yes

Did Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI) again?

Yes

For green field deployment Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure is probably the best SDN data center networking product on the market.

The migration steps from legacy DC to Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure is hard at time. Overlapping of VLANs and subnets could create an issue. Using the services of Cisco and external partners eases the process a bit.
