Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 3650 Series
Cisco Catalyst 3650 switches are used on the edge of our network. They provide access to computers in offices, classrooms, and computer labs.
Pros
- They provide network stability.
- Are very reliable.
- Easy to configure/maintain.
Cons
- Cisco network equipment is expensive to procure.
- High support costs.
- Occasional firmware issues, especially when new major releases are first available.
- Expensive to obtain, but rarely have any production downtime.
- Cisco TAC is very knowledgeable and responsive.
- Ease of administration, as Cisco IOS management is mostly the same across their product catalog.
As we are a smaller organization we have not found the need to explore these features. Also many of these capabilities have a cost associated with them that doesn't make it as attainable.
As a network administrator I have experience over the years with different vendors, the positive side to Cisco is the reliability of their devices. Outside of some minor firmware issues, they have been very dependable.
