Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

Cisco Catalyst 3650 switches are used on the edge of our network. They provide access to computers in offices, classrooms, and computer labs.
  • They provide network stability.
  • Are very reliable.
  • Easy to configure/maintain.
  • Cisco network equipment is expensive to procure.
  • High support costs.
  • Occasional firmware issues, especially when new major releases are first available.
  • Expensive to obtain, but rarely have any production downtime.
  • Cisco TAC is very knowledgeable and responsive.
  • Ease of administration, as Cisco IOS management is mostly the same across their product catalog.
As we are a smaller organization we have not found the need to explore these features. Also many of these capabilities have a cost associated with them that doesn't make it as attainable.
As a network administrator I have experience over the years with different vendors, the positive side to Cisco is the reliability of their devices. Outside of some minor firmware issues, they have been very dependable.
Cisco Catalyst switches have been very reliable and easy to maintain for the college. Once they are configured, outside of the occasional office changes and firmware updates there is very little required to keep them operating.
