Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst 8000 Edge Platforms

Currently exploring its features in my lab environment, so far Cisco Catalyst 8000 Edge Platforms appears to be the same as another platform, not entirely sure if it stands out for a particular feature. SDWAN and intent-based networking are its most selling points, I would have to work on it more before I give my final verdict.
  • Better performance
  • Routing capability
  • I have used ISR before, so this seems to have many more advanced features
  • Missing configuration control using rollbacks
  • I have used XR platform more and that seems to give more control.
  • config changes cannot be staged in different space prior to commit
  • Intent based networking
  • Port density
  • Scalable migrations
This evolves out of ASR1k platforms which lacked features like cloud integration and port density, Catalyst 8000 Edge Platforms seem to be packed with features particularly geared towards SDWAN and intent-based networking which is the need of the day on edge platforms. This definitely took an edge when it comes to performance metrics.

From a quick outlook, Cisco Catalyst 800 Edge Platforms seem to be a device packed with multipurpose functionalities which are well suited for WAN edge platforms, on the side It boasts code stability SDWAN features that can help future cloud migrations easier. moreover, it comes with high port density which can also diversify edge deployments.
