We use Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controllers for managing all our Cisco access points. They make management of wireless networks and troubleshooting issues easy.
Pros
- Debugging through radioactive tracing
- Building policies specific for sites that allow for granular control of settings for individual sites
- Same CLI as Catalyst Switches which makes it easy to work with
Cons
- Better GUI option for predownloading image to APs during upgrade
- With a high availability deployment of controllers and in service software upgrade option along with being able to upgrade APs in iteration we can always have the wireless network up, even during upgrades.
- Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
With granular control of different groups of APs we can easily manage multiple sites and have different RF configurations at different sites as well.
