Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN

We are in a process of deploying Cisco SD Wan across several ambulance stations. It’s already been deployed and tested at quite a few ambulance stations.

Pros

  • No more cli config required
  • Web portal to monitor/configure the device remotely
  • Multiple pre-defined template based configs ready to push onto the device
  • Catalyst SD-WAN Manager

Cons

  • Making the SIM slot easier to access
  • Manually checking if the IOS-XE on the router you are onboarding meets the minimum software version for connection to the Controllers. If not, manually upgrading IOS-XE prior to setup.
  • It was a very quick and easy approach to replace the existing old hardware with SD-WAN once 3G was shut across Australia.
  • It has saved time of manually configuring a router through cli.
  • Template based config saves the time and effort to always maintain last running config across multiple routers.
Reliable
Easy to configure
Great visibility and administration via web portal
Great for layer 4 filtering but lacks in application layer filtering and UTM features
