Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

  • Catalyst 2960-L Series
  • Catalyst 3850 Series
We use Catalyst Switches for the end-user access layer of our network. They are easy to use and limit the time it takes to get users on the network. The high density they provide also simplifies how we design our access layer network.

  • With the great life span on the Catalyst switches we have used, we definitely see a good ROI knowing that the money we spent would have good longevity.
We have not utilized these capabilities on our Catalyst Switches, but we plan to in the near future. We do like that these options are available to us for future use.
We have not benefited from these features at this time, but we plan to in the future.
We are a purely Cisco shop, and we have not used alternative products. Cisco Switches have adequately covered all the needs we have for these switches.
They are well suited for being access layer switches as well as doing some layer 3 functions as well.

Using Cisco Catalyst Switches

25 - We use Catalyst switches for multiple functions within our company. We use Catalyst for our access layer switches to connect all of our end users quickly so that they can perform their duties. We also use these types of switches to aggregate services/devices in our locations that do not require more robust solutions.
8 - We employ people with varying ranges of skill levels that interact with our Catalyst switches. On the low end, we have analysts with little networking skills that are able to manage these switches without difficulty, and they are able to learn/gain experience while working on them. We find that these switches are a good learning tool for our lower skilled workers to improve on.
  • We support legacy cellular services that sometimes require low speed network connections. Catalyst switches allow us to be able to still connect these devices to our network, and still be able to move towards higher bandwidth connections for more modern services.
  • With Catalyst switches supporting high bandwidth interfaces, we will be able to aggregate devices onto these switches which will allow us to support more business services without needing to redesign other parts of the network.
Catalyst offers a wide range of switch solutions that have supported the needs that we have. Couple that with their relatively easy to use IOS interface, our staff is able to adequately manage these devices without needing advanced training. Cisco has also provided great support whenever there was a situation that we could not resolve concerning these switches.

  • Initial setup of these switches is very easy to do witch allows us to have a quick deployment time.
  • Management of the Catalyst switches using IOS-XE CLI interface doesn't require a steep learning curve, and allows each member of our team to use it regardless of their skill level.
  • We have not experienced anything that was really difficult or cumbersome when it came to these switches.
I have used CAtalyst switches for both access layer and core switch setups, and have always had a good experience with them. They have been super reliable switches, and I'll be using them in the future. The ease of use allows us to deploy these switches in a variety of setups without difficulty, and low turnaround time.
