Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

We use Cisco Catalyst Switches to trunk our office network between two separate suites. They are effective in offering plenty of ports to wire in to the network as well as connecting to wireless devices. Without the switch setup, we would have to find alternate ways to access our WiFi from our second office suite.

Pros

  • Easy configuration management
  • Offers plenty of ports
  • Allows for effective trunking of data

Cons

  • Easier operating system upgradability
  • Better ways to query for commands
  • Ability to integrate new concepts like AI
  • They have positively impacted the ability to scale our network
  • Using multiple switches has allowed us to connect from different parts of the office
  • Our business has benefited from being able to integrate switches with our other network infrastructure

Cisco Catalyst Addtional Questions

  • trunking VLANs
  • Matching DSCP values
  • forwarding traffic
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
Cisco Catalyst switches were a good fit for us because we already make use of other Cisco routers and devices. They are pretty easy to configure and integrate with the rest of our server rack. Our use cases are not the most complex but Cisco Catalyst switches get the job done. I think that if we were to switch to another vendor for switches, we would run into many more problems.
For best practices, I would make sure to start from a clean base image and follow a first time setup configuration guide. Additionally, make sure to copy your configuration to NVRAM in order to save it in case power outages occur. We also sometimes make use of FTP to import configurations for new switches.
I was not directly involved in the sales process, but my company received all of the cisco Catalyst switches we ordered in mint condition and did not experience any issues with them upon implementation. Overall, they are working well for us and we have no complaints, but due to the fact that I was not directly involved I will give this a rating of 7/10
We did not have any need to contact the vendor after the sale of these switches, so I gave them a high rating. I have been involved in some other instances where we had a necessity to contact Cisco about a device and they were always quick to respond and helpful.
We did not make use of cisco services when planning or deploying our solution
